It’s crazy the sheer number of supposedly rational people who were like “ok but it’s good at health stuff” early on.

nobody wants to hear it but the corollary to the "everybody is 12" theory is that "everybody is 40".

'in this house we believe in science' of course man. you're 40. 'our political opponents will respect the rule of law' they won't bro but you're 40, it's fine. 'its too loud, i have tinnitus' dude,

finished my first week of seeing participants in a community clinic. i know it won't always feel this way, but right now it feels energizing, restorative, & affirming to do this work. savouring this sense of living the dream for the inevitably hard days later. but i am definitely in the right place.

This was one of the most interesting, candid conversations I’ve had while reporting from the tech beat.

@anildash.com did NOT pull any punches diagnosing what is happening with the tech industry.

about two weeks ago i got together with two friends and we went down through every district in the province and we couldnt see the liberals winning more than 15 seats. which seemed so unreasonable at the time that i just assumed we were extremely pessimistic and out of touch. anyway. we live in hell

Wakeham says no link between N.L. wildfires, oil industry in campaign where climate change largely absent | CBC News The 2025 provincial election is happening in the direct aftermath of one of the worst climate-related disasters in Newfoundland and Labrador’s recent history.

To be crystal clear: it's not about what the scientists "told CBC News", not just informed opinion. The science itself is very clear. You can question perhaps the degree of NL contribution to climate change, but it's fact that the oil from here is a contributor. Full stop. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Seismic shift needed to address N.L. housing crisis, experts say – The Independent Housing is a human right in Canada, yet unchecked rent hikes, Airbnb pressure, and landlord-lawmakers have left thousands in Newfoundland and Labrador one paycheck away from homelessness

Twelve out of 40 MHAs elected since 2021 are landlords, a higher percentage than most provinces and an unknown fact to most Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. #nlpoli #Election2025

How N.L. became the life (and death) of the party – The Independent We’re cutting through the undergrowth to find out why our political parties feel dead — and what might liven them up

for part 2/2 of my "NL Politics 101" series, I survey the breadth of newfoundland history to show that the reason all the problems keep repeating is because the party system hasn't changed since the last time it broke our democracy.

it doesn't have to be this way! theindependent.ca/commentary/a...

The Anna Karenina principle states that for success to occur in a complex endeavor, all key factors must be present and work correctly. The endeavor does not succeed when even one essential element is missing, meaning there are many different ways to fail. It is named for Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel Anna Karenina, which begins:

All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

The whole discourse about whether the plagiarism machine is a person, has been poisoned by the fact that the people on one side of it have used the plagiarism machine to destroy their ability to think.
