The impulsive reaction to Kimmel returning is celebratory but it shouldn’t be. We all know that the reason is ultimately financial; the blow to the bottom line mattered more than his, and our, rights as americans. And, beyond that, the collateral damage of reporters etc that lost jobs still exists.

A white supremacist shit head died and the whole world rallies to lionize him, my trans siblings get murdered constantly because of his rhetoric, fucking crickets. I'm exceptionally exhausted with existing in a world that would clap at my death and celebrate those who called for it.

Trek is too expensive to make, streaming is collapsing, and they clearly want to appeal to a conservative base so why have anything that could be even slightly construed as against conservative values.

So, one of Austin's most beloved café-venues is moving. The Hideout was the first place in Austin I ever had a cup of coffee, and it's another sign of how much downtown has changed. Running a small business there was always hard. Now it's impossible. www.austinchronicle.com/daily/arts/2...
