Why was Chris Froome wearing a nose ring at the Tour de France? Froome spotted using device called The Turbine after losing the yellow jersey on stage 12

CP/W' testing complete both in the Lab and on the Road.

Mock 45 minute TT for individualise some parameters for the W'bal model.

BBS Suggest pacing with a 5% increase in mean power.

Now to tweak 2nd 1/2 after the climb, can see depletion of that below.

Execute on race day then write up paper

Does anyone have lode bike 3 minute all out file they wouldn’t mine sharing? Would like to produce a chart of the power file as a figure example

Anyone have an actual copy of this - Whipp et al 1982 ‘A constant which determines the duration of tolerance to high-intensity work’

Should chat over some bits at some point :)

Come from a few bits in our fatigue and intensity study along with a few things I keep coming across. Caen 2019, 2021 showed the longer the effort the slower the recovery. Currently just ‘playing’ with variations, will run it over previous data. Hopefully go into the final TT/W’bal project :)

A morning relatively well spent. Modelling different variations on the influence of durations on recovery based on some data we have. Tau left, duration impact of the work out on the bottom Baseline tau is 127s. Integrating into our model. Specifically for ITT, next step is weighted time factor.

The W’bal profile gives a nice indicator of work above CP. here are both. Also have the wind data as well etc.

A well paced TT here, 3 clear phases In the W’bal profile, final sector power was hovering around CP. Top 8.

Wind direction was a large factor in pacing as well.

Piloting a few different protocols [More bits to come]. Some interesting observations so far.

First part works well - second part has one of the issues we have found. Developing a few tweaks to account for this. Can’t say that much on it just yet.

For CP and W' SE values via 3 points - with the 2P non linear calculation I will take that.

last two studies - we have been really strict to minimise these SE values. As these are the inputs for the W’bal model.

Will look to add a function for these SE values into the prediction I.e high and low

Another lovely example of a TT W'bal output. Two variations which demonstrate a slightly different narrative.

Individualisation is key 🔑 but it’s a balance with prev testing and specific testing along with what has been done and race/training data.

Currently developing something new/tweaks ;)

I think this picture says it all. A fantastic weekend with two pb’s from two riders and a National champs jersey.

Privileged to be able to do something I love, and how my PhD supports it.

Still a lot of work to be done, but this is the start of it. We’ll have a few new inputs/variations into it from the findings of the PhD so far.

Likely turn a few parts into slider vs typing so UI is faster.

And to expand this for full sessions and a few cool things.

Setmana Valenciana- W'bal Insights. Asides from the fact my PhD is based around this. I find it often paints a nice narrative of what happened. Hard push on 2nd to last climb, pace was hot on the last then eased. Then saved themself for final Sprint, with a few up the road.

Not yet - Will likely present part of the data set at Cycling Science.

And have it also written up by then for full publication! So, all being well this year! It will be a really interested paper with what I have analysed so far!

Tour of Oman Stage 5: W'BAL profile of two riders. Both finished well. Other a good few places ahead.

After W'bal is close to 0, it hovers low with slow recovery. They were unable to maintain the set pace, and continued around ± CP until the finish.

Chrono Étoile de bessege - TT W'bal insights

#3 different variations for 𝜏w', showing differences. This was a well paced effort. Climb to finish. Also need to consider technical ability with speed/corners.

Consider which 𝜏w' you use - Paper on this hopefully out soon.

W'bal insights: Research Data from our work rate and fatigue study. Here is a fresh and fatigued W'bal output. in the Fatigued state there is a reduction. Maybe W' does not go back to 100%, Maybe 𝜏w' slows. Likely a combo of all. Fast component seems to be impacted the most.
