But why? (said with a whine) I’m definitely with my 9th graders on this one. Citations are needlessly complicated and worrying about them takes away from the valuable work of research and writing. I make them cite everything in their science writing but I hate checking the works cited page.

Honest question. Please don’t cancel me. Why do we care about MLA vs Chicago vs APA? Is the purpose of the citation to be able to find the original source? If so, then does it really matter if I make a mistake here or there with the formatting?

This was my check-in the other day. Ninth graders chuckled and I’ve heard half the number of “six-seevveens” since.

It’s a blessing and a curse but I also have an extreme amount of flexibility with what I teach. It allows me to be creative and teach things I am passionate about. But it also means I work a ton creating new curriculum.

I spent way too many hours in the last week making these coloring sheets for my students but I’m very happy with how they turned out.

Yes. I teach 9th graders and I love them. I’m teaching two preps but I’ve taught both of them before and I work with a great team.

Sports Night was incredible. It deserved better from us.

This is the correct answer. The 0.5 is amazing for my own writing. 0.7 is better for under a document camera. Navy, dark green, maroon, and brown (which I can no longer get refills of) are the best colors.

First deal breaker I totally get. I wonder about it being people’s only deal breaker. As a biology teacher, what and how I can teach has always been something I have had to consider when moving.

I guess that’s what I wonder about. Are there really a bunch of teachers who live in CA or NY who are looking to move to Oklahoma and would jump at the chance if the teacher salary was a little higher?

I’ve taught in NY and in CA and it’s not the salary that is keeping me from moving to Oklahoma…

At 26 I had been paying all my own bills for more than 8 years. I had a masters degree and was married. We were financially supporting my in-laws. I had moved across the country with my spouse and was in my fourth year of teaching middle school. I was a whole ass adult.

I teach my classes on different days as well but keep them on the same schedule. It’s actually awesome for planning because I only have to prep three lessons a week. Monday and Tuesday are the same, etc.

I understand the apprehension but I think you will love it.

I love a block schedule where you see the kids every other day. The key is to never make work due on a day that you don’t have class. I teach 9th grade. They love always having 2 nights to do their work. For the first couple weeks I send reminder updates the night before an assignment is due.

I paint occasionally, only for my own enjoyment. I’ve been painting animals for my nieces, the last of whom was born 7 months ago so I am a bit behind but I hadn’t had the inspiration to paint.

Last night I painted this little guy and it was such a joy to just fall into painting again.
