Edgar Allan Poe's "The Black Cat" has been popular movie fodder for over a century. It was first adapted in a German silent film anthology released in 1919 and the latest adaptation was in Dario Argento's Two Evil Eyes (1990).

The fact that this doesn't seen to be widely understood, especially by academics (critical thinking is supposed to be their job!), is baffling

And, to paraphrase a colleague, the "AI" label gets slapped onto plenty of things that have been around for years

I've said it elsewhere, but "AI" is a marketing term with no real meaning that gets applied to anything vaguely algorithmically driven
