On Wednesday I took part in an action at the Iowa capitol on Mental Health on the Hill day. The action was a die-in to highlight suicide rates in trans people (and trans youth in particular) and the toll anti-trans legislation takes on trans mental health.

To be clear, this has already been happening in the past year - if you’re here on a student visa and the school expels you for protesting, you lose your visa. Even a suspension can endanger visa status.
It makes it easier, but using the threat of deportation as a silencing tactic has been happening
