Twenty+ years and half a lifetime ago, I was all alone in my adoration of the Berserk manga by Kentaro Miura. Now they stock the omnibus edition in the nearest Walmart.

And if it doesn't seem that surprising, it just goes to show how much US cultural expectations have shifted.

Final Answer from Receptionist: Take him back to the ER.
Postgame Office Discussion: Why didn't they admit him? What's his insurance? United Medicare Advantage.
Me (thinking): Remember that it can always be worse. And also, remember that the insurance in question was UNITED.

We've been to the ER. They discharged him.
Answer: What? Why didn't they admit him? The internist in charge should've admitted him and contacted us. The hospital schedules inpatient and outpatient procedures differently--they could've admitted him and ordered a dilation ASAP.

But ma'am, his eyeballs are turning yellow, what do I do?
Answer: If his eyeballs are turning yellow, he needs to go to the ER.

On Tues, 3 Dec 2024, I in the GI office eavesdropping on the receptionist taking a phone call from someone asking on behalf of their Significant Other if maybe possibly their scheduled biliary dilation could be stepped up to sometime earlier than 10 Jan 2025?
Answer: No.

If there ever was a prize for most striking and just all-around eye-catching cover for a book on anime/manga, the cover for @caseybrienza.bsky.social's Manga in America: Transnational Book Publishing and the Domestication of Japanese Comics would totally get the prize!

Because:

Renewed my passport online earlier this month, estimated 4-6 week turnaround time, which, if you know the US gov't, typically means 5 weeks + 4 days. I had my new passport in hand IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS. What, is the State Dept afraid it's not going to exist after Jan 20? Or are they afraid FOR me?
