I hate how it’s fans talk about it like it’s the first good TV show. (I am also a massive fan of it, btw.)

In general, more episodic TV really gets under-looked. Something like Columbo or even Adventure Time completely clears everything (imho) on here save for The Sopranos.

But I’m someone who tends to think the Prestige TV thing was way overblown.

There are unfortunately terrible people
whose work interfaces with their life in really interesting ways (Lou Reed probably, William S. Burroughs, etc.) No-one in Led Zeppelin is like that at all, though. Just completely shallow and vapid imho.

I had a strong preference for Spooksville at the time, tbh, even though I got into Goosebumps first.

The bog gateways to me were Goodebumps and Spooksville.

Senility as a medical term is outdated, ofc, but it doesn’t mean that every old person with cognition issues has dementia.

This is just like throwing around the term ADHD for anyone who seems unfocused and then saying, “Lack of focus means they have ADHD.”

Dementia is a diagnosable medical condition that progresses as it goes on. Trump has been some variation of what he’s like now for many years. He is definitely even dumber, but it’s not a major shift. Biden is more arguable, but we don’t have enough information on him to know.

They’re not at all the same thing.

Just like with Biden, he doesn’t have dementia. This is just how some people get when they’re this old.

I read somewhere that the majority of lawyers who die by homicide are family lawyers, which honestly makes sense.

Huge contrast between Sopranos season finales, which are great but don’t feel like the point of the whole season or what was being built up to, and the season finales of many shows now. Now, it often feels like the build up is the whole point.

The 60s and 70s were so great for mainstream music, it’s crazy that Boomers and “I was born in the wrong generation,” people chose the exact wrong bands (imo) to be nostalgic for.

I do think there is something to be said for artists charging what they’re worth. Mach-Hommy charging thousands of dollars for albums as a highly respected but relatively unknown rapper is different from what big record labels do.

A very revealing moment for me was you repeating the John Cage Woodstock anecdote in the episode for The Band.

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you to skip TOS. TOS has some of the highest quality television in the lot of them. The lows are extremely low, but here is a good guide for skippable episodes: thomism.org/interpretati...

I appreciate the slow build-up to one of the show’s eventual villains (for me) - Led Zeppelin.

Damn, I’m really glad we’ve automated writing about Bob Dylan, there really hasn’t been enough said about him.

Even die-hard Yoko Ono fans (at least the ones I’ve seen) don’t really defend that one.

Jordan Peele honestly has a poor track record outside of his own movies.

Damn, he revealed the whole plan, though, so now the deep-state is on to them.

I do genuinely like bits of The End.

I love how The Monkees are a famously “terrible” band and they’re much better than like half of the canonical 60s rock groups.

What the Stones represent is way worse than The Doors, but the best Stones song is far, far better than the best Doors song.

One last act of bad artistic judgment getting incorrectly expunged from the grave, Frost thanking God that The Return was made 25 years later and not 35 years later, etc.

Unfortunately, it’s funnier and more layered if he did say it.

I like Yoko Ono a lot, particularly Fly and Plastic Ono Band - both of which I think are way more interesting than any of Lennon’s solo stuff. But people who rightfully defend her also ascribe way too much influence to her. I want someone to a more down to earth re-appraisal of her music.

She is immensely underrated as a vocalist, but that may just be because of how over the top and persistent the hate for her voice has been.

Prometheus might be the most interesting one, if not the best. I feel all of the inane plot complaints (there are good reasons to hate it, those aren’t it) have aged like milk now that it’s even more obvious that tech CEOs like Weyland would actually be that stupid.
