And I say this not as a hater, but someone who likes video games and wish they uh did more... I want to get the same fulfillment I get out of listening to a good album, watching a great film, book, etc and I'm not getting that kind of knock my socks off feeling from video games

Games are definitely art, but I feel like there's very few games that are actually good art and have interesting things to say.

The internet was so much better when people weren't complaining about how it used to be so much better, instead of just having fun with it.

Last QRT is all I post about lately but the world is just flooded with it lately and I feel like I can't avoid it, and it's driving me insane.

It's not even about cringe, it's just tasteless and y'all can do better, if you want colors you can just have colors you don't need companies to make cheap plastic shit again for that.

I hope people move on from this specific brand of nostalgia for rainbow vomit gaudy plastic and consumerism (but 1990s-2000s therefore ✨ aesthetic ✨) because honestly what are we doing here.

Emulation exists & is actual preservation, digital DRM free music exists, you can rip music. There's a lot of better things to do than give money to people who are now grifting over your nostalgia and feeling of powerlessness to make things better. You don't need the "old internet" back, either.

& with tech there's ways to undo all the things you don't like while keeping modern QoL and conveniences. You can enjoy old media with modern tech, you don't need to listen to a CD on a CD player to have offline music, or play a game on an original console if you didn't like the remake or whatever.

Not a big fan of how my generation is going into the "new thing bad, old thing good" and "oh it was so much better back in the day" about literally anything, in a way that completely lacks nuance or critical thinking, I get it... people are fatigued, but come on. You can't return to those days.

There's a lot of people that just don't get it about whatever the thing you like is, isn't that kind of frustrating?

It'd also be a huge ask to make a lot of less tech literate people understand that there's not a large world between digital music on a CD & files on your computer. People really do thing their only options are streaming, and physical media. That saddens me slightly I don't think it's their fault.

I know I said the last point before but I've been thinking about trying to phrase my exact issue with this trend and I don't really think I'm getting closer.

And I mean means to play it back *accurately* on a variety of hardware/devices, this could be for music, games, films, etc. Being given the means to only play a physical copy on only the device intended to play that thing is not god's gift to you. Physical media isn't a solution to DRM/presevation.

People romanticizing physical media (read, a copy that is basically a symbolic representation of "ownership" as dubious as that is) over meaningful preservation (digital copies, and means to play back those copies) is the one way capitalism has obtained a grip over people's relationship with art.

If you're playing a video game never look up anyone's opinions on it because you'll quickly realize how much none of these mfs have any media literacy (this is specifically a problem with video games, especially if it's retro video games and it's just a bunch of boomers that do nothing else)

It's so weird how I don't hear much about syd or sydbox, it seems really robust and easy to use. I've messed with tools like bubblejail before, (bubblewrap with some seccomp filters and other things) but this applies a multi-layer approach, without suid, heightened privileges, etc...

Not big on how the average Desktop Linux user just uses it just in spite of the other things and not because of genuine interest, and I do wonder if that will lead to more pushback against change/improvement because they got burnt out on Mac OS or Windows changing in ways they don't like.

I wish I had the resources to get a Framework to really tear it apart so I can prove exactly why it's actually a dogshit laptop, especially if you intend to run Linux or Qubes or whatever on this thing. (people in spaces I'm in keep recommending them)

I hate how a certain type of computer user is too keen to encourage you to make your life worse because they actually hate all technology made after 2006, and if you use like regular QoL features made since then you're like not part of the elite club or whatever.
