Come on Apple, you can't let this stand, can you? Getting beaten by Samsung in the SMR game!
08.04.2025 13:57 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0The government should definitely fund it. The report just cements the knowledge that decarbonization will not happen cheaply or without government, and our level of cookedness is based on this
26.03.2025 10:41 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0If you stop building nuclear power plants now, you reap so few benefits of the learning curve, the skilled professionals. The second one you build will be cheaper and faster.
This is the same thing after each first nuclear power plant ever built - why build another one, fossil fuels are cheap?
?
26.03.2025 10:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Every single country in europe should be building everything they can to decarbonize, not monitor spot pricing. The environment will still be in dire straits in 10 years, if anything worse.
I'm not batteries biggest fan, but sure, build more batteries. But don't stop the nuclear momentum.
Countries should phase out biofuels from their total energy consumption - we should not be burning wood for energy any more, it's 2025 for gods sake
26.03.2025 10:15 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0"From 2021 to 2023, 60% of tree cover loss in Finland occurred within natural forest. The total loss within natural forest was 469kha, equivalent to 103 Mt of CO₂e emissions."

This is the crux of it. Opinions don't matter that much apparently. And the markets won't support decarbonization. If you don't care about the environment, there is no reason to build nuclear. So literally the only pressure comes from environmentalists - a tiny sliver of the world. Hence, cooked.
26.03.2025 10:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It is, but that's the game, no? We need to completely decarbonize, not just decarbonize our electricity. It's not enough to get to 40% clean energy sources in total and then throw your hands up and say well, here no need to build any new nuclear
26.03.2025 10:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This is infuriating!
Finland still uses 33% fossil fuels AND burns ancient forests for 31% of their energy.
Europe still uses 70% fossil fuels overall.
But put the brakes on new nuclear; those fossil fuels are too cheap to beat.
We are so fucking cooked
Ah so that’s the trick! Gotta get on that 🤔
20.03.2025 19:01 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Looked it up again:
"The stack of dry casks on a football field would be 135 meters high (or 443 feet, or 148 yards)."
"a stack of spent fuel pellets 3.0 meters tall (3.3 yards/9.84 feet/118 inches)"
I can never remember how many yards tall the nuclear waste could be stacked in a football field!
@whatisnuclear.com must be able to remember this stuff off the top of his head
We cannot close a reactor for no good reason, driving up gas prices and outbidding poorer countries. We're at war with a gas-producing nation! It should be treason to intentionally drive up gas prices.
Restart Doel-1!
We don't need baseload power, we'll just have micro-grids, and a combination of solar, wind, batteries, hydro, interconnected hydrogen grids, and strategically reduce demand in certain areas based on a smart meter system
20.03.2025 09:05 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I love how the new nuclear projects in Europe are at these beautiful Mediterranean spots, but every new nuclear project in the US is at like at the ruralest sundown city you can imagine
Nuclear engineers take note
This is a very real problem, people having no sense of wanting to make a bunch of money!!
Once this repository is up, it will be the historical Wyoming waste repository and people will protest it's removal.
You just need a few key people to be bold enough to want to make some fucking money!
I had missed this! Let's go Ghana, I cannot wait for this project to be properly underway. Ghana deserves nuclear so much!
28.02.2025 08:58 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It was great going to the @standupfornuclear.org protest in Belgium, but depressing that there's so many of them for closures of nuclear power plants. Unbelievable that gas is getting this handout in 2025!!

Not in 2022 when we were all screaming at them to please pause the phaseout, for fucks sake
It's so good, labour has always been good on nuclear, but its great to see them implement it while in power
