Democratic anger at their own party fuels 2026 primaries With the party's image at record lows and declining even among Democratic voters, candidates for Senate see an opening to win by positioning themselves against leaders.

NEW: When Mallory McMorrow conveyed her plans to run for Senate, DSCC asked her to hold off, per 3 sources.

More calls, some staff level; same result.

Per one source: “It was, ‘Can you wait a little longer, can you wait?’”

McMorrow defied them and launched.

Can Progressive Mayors Redeem the Democratic Party? Zohran Mamdani isn’t the only candidate challenging the status quo—and having fun doing it.

It's not just Mamdani. Michelle Wu, Katie Wilson--the Dems may soon have a remarkable cast of young, gifted mayors

Yet another seat that will be filled by a group of insiders in a vacancy committee

I don’t care if we do special elections or block appointees from running for reelection to a seat they were appointed to or some third thing—the huge proportion of unelected reps is a problem the leg must address

We need someone who can fight for us in court on day one. There are three excellent litigators in the race already. Each has their strengths and weaknesses, but all would be more than competent to handle the job from the jump

This is why it’s so important for us to have a seasoned litigator in the AG’s office here in Colorado, and why Jena Griswold cannot be allowed through the primary.

It’s a long ways out yet, but I hope the field narrows itself if necessary to defeat Griswold’s AG bid.

I’m glad Caraveo has dropped out of this race and hope she continues getting the support she needs. No one wanted to put her back in the position she was in last fall, and I’m grateful she’s now stepping back from that pressure

Now that Kirk's killer seems to be caught, maybe the news could spare a moment's attention for the right wing, from the commentariat up to the GOP and president, whose immediate reaction was not mourning, but to seize the opportunity to try to incite violence against groups they hate

I honestly do not care about some pundit’s opinion on what a government shutdown may or may not look like in an election a year from now. We are beyond that.

Whatever can be done to slow down this speed run towards authoritarianism is necessary and should be done.

In a recent interview in his downtown Manhattan office, Mr. Nadler, 78, said he hesitated to step aside when he believes that President Trump is threatening the foundations of democracy. But he said he had been persuaded it was time for a changing of the guard.
"Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect that," Mr. Nadler said, adding that a younger successor "can maybe do better, can maybe help us more."

This is what patriotism and true egoless leadership looks like. Thanks for your service, Rep. Nadler. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/01/n...

The Trumpies think endangering kids is politics. This is bullshit. I stand with DPS and all the educators who fight like hell to create safe environments where all our kids can thrive. As AG I’ll continue fighting to ensure that Colorado anti-discrimination law remains the law of the land.

At least for state legislative leaders, there’s the thought that criticism could invite opposition to any of their bills in the next legislative session. Petersen, Crow, DeGette, Neguse, Hickenlooper, and Bennet have no such defense

I continue to be disappointed with our federal representation

I’d love to be proven wrong if I’ve just missed statements, but why hasn’t Polis’ renewed support for RFK been attacked by Colorado’s congressional delegation or its state legislative leaders?

Are folks simply used to Polis’ “idiosyncrasies” or do they not care enough to criticize the governor?

Yara Zokaie is an extraordinary public servant with a bright future in Colorado politics. I’ve been impressed by her restraint in responding to this deplorable conduct by Republican lawmakers and hope it doesn’t deter her from speaking her mind

CO’s legislature is notoriously toxic, which is a huge driver of so many being appointed by committee. I’m thankful Rep. Duran especially spoke out in support of @repyara.bsky.social.

CO leg’s toxicity is famous—I don’t understand why this behavior has been so tolerated in private discussion

“The stakes are too high not to act” is true and both of Colorado’s senators and its governor are failing us exactly by refusing to act where they can

Conspicuously missing from this statement from Sen. Bennet is any comment on Colorado’s maps, which Bennet would obviously have outsized influence over as governor in 2027.

His support for CA’s plan is pointless if he doesn’t follow it up with action at home.

Incredibly ashamed of my Alma mater capitulating to Trump’s demands. I completely ugly look to cooperate with the fascists and shows why the faculty voted no confidence in Haefner’s leadership.

So much for being a private university dedicated to the public good, as the admin likes to say so often

Nothing pisses me off more than getting a fundraising text from Democrats talking about how they’re fighting fascism… Because it’s such bullshit. We’re not idiots. Everyone knows most of them aren’t doing jack shit right now to fight back.

And to @philweiser.bsky.social for taking legal action after the leg’s failure to act

Extremely disappointed in the city’s vote last night to block RCV in Denver and then directly target the council’s two most progressive members.

The council is clearly afraid of disturbing the status quo, a quality more and more common among Dem electeds, and Denver will be worse off for it

“We have a spending problem” sounds nice on a bumpersticker but really you’re advocating for cutting schools and roads and hospitals etc.

You demand we underinvest in the things that help people and then claim government doesn’t help anyone. So clever.
