It's nice when they can reestablish power quickly. #Kamloops
Still wrecks havoc on technology. Never thought it would pay off so quickly, but love having a UPS on my @synologyofficial.bsky.social and network!
Server didn't abruptly shutdown, and still had internet and WiFi throughout the outage.
Good god, this is the thing that "they" say will take out jobs?
08.08.2025 08:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0FYI, our guest for this event will be Vancouver City Councillor @lucymaloney.bsky.social, a champion of the livable streets, transportation, and environmental movements. We're excited to get to talk with her. Gotta respect elected officials who don't shy away from sitting down with The War on Cars!
06.08.2025 22:20 β π 41 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, #BikeCulture is pretty messed up in North America when it's generally seen as recreation v. transport
It's not just schools, #Kamloops council too. When #ActiveTransportation is at the horseshoe, theres at least one that has to mention something about cycling = recreation, not commuting.
I can't remember a decent summer if the last ~decade. Either the smoke/air quality is too bad OR its just unbearably hot.
I haven't looked forward to summer for a while. Its whatever spring/fall we have... Which are disappearing as #ClimateChange shortens them and we're stuck with the extremes
So what's happening on #BcHwy5 in #Kamloops?
01.08.2025 00:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Or a phone with a radio tuner chipset. (though those are becoming rare) #Vancouver #CelebrationOfLights
23.07.2025 19:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It would be a municipal, not development, upgrade - but I believe there's potential there.
Overall the development plan/renders are positive (despite what the petition-goers say)
Kind of like a scramble intersection?
Being that Columbia 2-lanes ends at 6 Ave, I wonder if traffic could be funneled down at 5 Ave? and combine one of the turning lanes into the travel lane?
Then a 5 Ave MUP could lead bikes to a protected bike path with a priority signal to cross to 6 Ave

www.icbc.com/road-safety/...
We do with the red light cameras (speed on green).
The current NDP brought that in in their first mandate back when Eby was AG.
I believe it required legislative tweaks to the BC MVA, but I could be wrong - I'd have to look it up
Now sure how they work in BC and if a municipality can install themselves or if it has to go through the province/ICBC... I've only ever seen the ICBC ones in BC.
Edmonton and Calgary used them well (I think) until their UPC banned the speed on green.
Like don't want to pay, don't speed. Simple.
Argh, sorry.
ATEs is automated traffic enforcement. So like red light cameras, speed on green, even neighbourhood speed cameras.
oh you certainly can do both, but ticketing requires more spent on enforcement too.
Maybe if we had plentiful ATEs in Kamloops/BC, but we don't.
Could they have at least used some spell check?
16.07.2025 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not surprised with Middleton. Goes hand-in-hand with them staying they would support removing the 6 Ave protected bike lane.
#Kamloops #ActiveTransportation #VisionZero #PedestrianDignity
O'Reilly is right. Design is way more effective than administrative. Signs are just signs, and are very expensive, then you have to increase enforcement.
16.07.2025 21:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0Meh, less likely that than if it were an HOA.
A HOA would absolutely loose their shit
Yeah. That one was weird.
And people still hog the left lane cause they don't want to zipper on Pacific Way.
Great for those of us that do zipper merge, but I'd rather see other improvements and way more "transportation diversification"
Even having engaged with ATEG, I'm not very optimistic on council's reaction to the report and adoption.
And most importantly implementation. (ie. Budget line stuff)
They absolutely were used. Most where already identified by the engagement group already.
There really wasn't anything new/different on the Let's Talk engagement map. The ATEG had already gone through greater detail.
The council doesn't give two shits either.
We have one councillor that on record said they would like to put a motion to have staff explore removing the 6 Ave protected bike lane cause "they" "never see anyone using it"
Karpuk last year actually did bring up the John Todd Elementary lease.
Its crazy that we're leasing school space when we're also sourcing portables.
At least the School District FINALLY reversed the North Shore middle school BS!
I don't think the SD is ready for the North Shore in-fill plans.
It's a real shame that I he school district ripped out all the TechEd shops at JP.
While small, when I did my Gr9 shop? (maybe Gr10), looking back I actually really liked that shop. They were well laid out.
KamHigh (South Kamloops), was also to have access to gymnasium at JP when they change configuration.
Really though, the JP building should be put back into the regular 8-12 school stock.
KamHigh really just needs a new gym, to which they could add a few more classrooms with.
But like they just re did the music room in 2004/2005 and the Sagebrush the following year.
It makes NO SENSE to seek replacement when you literally just did major renos
π― - the classrooms are also quite large.
They really don't build schools/buildings like they use to - its has held up quite well.
@kamloops.ca and @bctransit.com need to do better with pet accessibility.
Our leashed pets should be allowed on transit - current policy is discriminatory. @cityofcalgary.bsky.social, by far, has THE BEST/most fair pet transit policy!
