No, I don't think that's right. The protocol was first developed in an Israeli phone company, but the matrix foundation is its own organization. Besides it's all open source and can just use any app or provider you want for it and that's completely independent, so it shouldn't matter.

for the love of god stop using discord. switch to matrix.org or something. or if you're not gonna switch to something else at least protest in a way that hurts discord and stop fucking paying for nitro

Also I've known since I was like 12 that having everyone on one app is terrible the moment something happens to someone's account or god forbid the whole app.

I already do this because I talk to people who aren't strictly gamers, to me that would be a non issue and preferable to a bsky situation where everyone treated it as the one single exclusive alternative and piling onto it only to find out it's run by people who hate them.
