Labour's anti-asylum policies are already fundamentally inhumane and discriminatory. Applying them retrospectively is pure cruelty though. It serves absolutely no purpose. Meanwhile it will increase the costs and bureaucracy of an already dysfunctional Home Office.

A lanyard can also be a security issue, because some companies will require anyone (employees, contractors, visitors, etc) on their premises to wear a pass visibly around their neck, and will require anyone to challenge someone going around without a visible pass.

Whatever the label, migrants are always presented as people who take from the UK (jobs, benefits, women, etc). They apparently don't contribute anything (other than social problems, perhaps) but "we will make sure they do!" I just find the perception shift interesting

Perhaps more than anything, Lord Glasman wants a return to sanity. He is repulsed by the officious, rules-based, professional classes who preach that “up is down, men are women, right is wrong”. Who tell us that truth is subjective and must be suborned to kindness. He recently took part in a Newsnight panel alongside a doctor. “In the lift afterwards, I asked him, ‘If a bloke comes to you with a penis and says they’re a woman, you’ll accept that?’ And he replied, ‘Of course.’ This is bonkers.”

Even the term “progressive” makes Lord Glasman shudder. His mother died of progressive supranuclear palsy. “Every word of that condition is terrible. She lost all her bodily functions, yet her brain remained intact, leaving her a mute witness to her own demise. It took six years to kill her, and to cure me of any fantasy that ‘progressive’ is desirable.”

There are some truly unhinged bits in the piece about Glasman, as to be expected when dealing with Glasman, but seriously what the actual? That's...one hell of a conflation of terminology.

I first came to 🇬🇧 close to 30 years ago b/c I wanted an experience abroad (actually, for reasons of foreign languages, I was targeting Germany) and I got a job offer in the UK. There was nothing that prevented me from staying "where I came from". 1/2

I think "Ethnicity" (like gender) is to some extent (beyond what is imposed to each one of us by nature and heredity) "self-defined".
I'd like to think this UKGov (even this UKGov, and even its immediate predecessors) respects this, and I certainly do 🙂

Mahmood is getting comprehensively owned by Reform over on the other place.

Our politics are still defined by resentment & hatred of these people.

I'm no lawyer,I can't argue w/ UKSC.However,it's the interpretation of the Law as-is.W/ its huge majority,it's open to this Lab UKGov to change the Law to protect Transgender persons
