It was a trip watching Rpri realize in real time that she was going to be kinda famous soon.

SLICE was great. They've really done a lot with it the last few years. It was amazing watching Rori in the spotlight, she shines so brightly in it. Reconnected with faces I've missed, and I got to be a big sloppy insufferable wife guy all weekend, which is my anti-drug (but also drugs.)

I am genuinely having a hard time coping with success. Yeh, I know my old friends think I should shut the fuck up about it and just be grateful but I've spent most of the day crying and not out of joy.

You might want to tweak your search filters there, guy, not those Warriors.

It does turn out that Warriors fans are honestly pretty great, sweet, and welcoming. I was worried, I've never written for a fandom before, and some of them are horrible. I hope they still like me when they read it.

But I have never been able to live up to this potential. Now, decades later, I understand why. For a while I thought it was Borderline Personality Disorder. But I found out what it actually is. 2. That's a hard-hitting one-two punch that makes everything I try to do much more difficult and frustrating. 3. [Behind me are some folks. Two are chatting. Another two are flirting. I cannot tell the difference.] It's why I don't understand how people work. For example, I always misinterpret social cues. 4. [Around me are examples of hobbies and projects I've abandoned or left unfinished. I look very sad/frustrated.] Vintage computers; making videos for my YouTube channel; belly dance (and dance in general); my graphic novel; my homebuilt electronic wind instrument (and music-making in general); volleyball (specifically sand court) It's why I abandon hobbies and never finish what few projects my executive dysfunction actually allows me to start. 5. It's Portfolio Day and I'm technically an artist, but not a pro. I long ago gave up the idea that my art would earn me a living.

So now I just say, "I draw indie comics. You've probably never heard of me." I really lean into that, actually. Which is one reason why my avi is Hipster Ariel.

I'm not sure what a "Banana Ball" is but it doesn't sound promising.

I did miss this (IDMT I guess?) I'm not commonly a horror audience, but I want to sit in a theatre and watch this happen.

It's a growing issue because they're debunking facts too.

Also, the source material is trash and I seem to be the only one who knows it, but they pay my bills while I do real work... like a punk-band coven battling the powerful wizard, David Bowie (coming soon?)

I'm just blowing some steam here in my secret identity, and I trust no one is actually reading it anytway. The artist I'm talking about seems genuinely sweet and loves making comics. I had no part in choosing to work with her and she deeply had no choice in working with me, A Real Weirdo.

The publisher and editor don't like me either, but that's because I've been sick and missing deadlines, which is fair. I mean, sure, First Second sent us a $100 Grubhub gift when they heard I was sick, but yknow, First Second is the nicest comic book publisher in history, so. Heart you, Robyn.

I got hired for this gig based 100% on a sample 10-page script I did in a half-dead haze, a single-draft having never read or even heard of the books. And quickly at that. It took 2 months to decide on an artist. The publisher had never heard of me, and I still think doesn't know my other work.

Establishing shots don't have to be splash pages. 12-panel spreads aren't a chore, and I don't overpack panels. I drew several books of Pictures of You at 10-panel PAGES let alone spreads, often dialogue-heavy crowd scenes at that. And I am NOT a skilled illustroator. Experience matters.

This is a rant. Disregard.

The most common note I get from one GN collaborators is "too many panels" on a spread, which is true, but we have to pack two novels into 256 pages. We're gonna have 14-panel spreads here and there. Some of this is going to get squeezed, our job is to figure out what.

I realize I might not be the best example of this, though, since I also halso my bank card details memorized and I know that's weird.
