Bumbling morons, yes, but also insecure and vindictive petty tyrants that believe themselves invincible and above any laws while wielding enormous destructive power.

A car accident sent her to the hospital β€” and $64,000 into debt This doctor broke her ankle in a car accident. The hospital kept her overnight, but her insurer stopped paying after she left the emergency room.

Physician Lauren Hughes was driving when another car T-boned her Subaru, totaling it and breaking her ankle.

Then the bills came: $63,976.35 in total because her insurance deemed her hospital stay not medically necessary.

Indistinguishable from any other night around here, what with all if the cars that pop and bang on the over-run ripping around every bight. Why that isn’t a tow-and-crush offense is beyond me.

Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

Can't overstate how fucked up it is that unraveling what is arguably the greatest achievement in the history of humanity is now a motivating issue of one of the two dominant parties in the U.S.

Also a reminder that β€˜joined up government’ sometimes means things like the Home Office giving dubious travel data to HMRC, so you just get β€˜joined up dysfunction’

UK woman who booked Oslo flight but did not fly loses child benefit β€˜because she emigrated’ Exclusive: HMRC told Lisa Morris-Almond there was no record of her return to UK, but she did not take the trip

Somebody at HMRC needs to be canned for this idiotic β€˜fraud-detection’ idea. And I fear future use of AI in welfare cases might well produce this kind of story regularly (as they have in Nevada for example).

I'm pro-union because I think workers should organize to balance the power that business owners have in various negotiations. It's true that unions have been weakened, but it's not because of multiculturalism. I would argue, it's because people seek to exploit divisions for their material interests.

Has there ever been an advance in technology that has so quickly become a hotbed of crime, with such a wide variety of crime?
The police are only just catching up with the internet - when are they going to be AI ready?

Take out the data centre, and use the electricity to heat three hospitals instead

Greedy industries offer scraps of their own waste to underfunded and undervalued public services all the time, as a way of greenwashing their public image. You don't have to accept it.

This would probably give a sizeable majority to Reform. FPTP has to go, it cannot work well even in a 3 party system, let alone with 5.

The Real Energy Scandal The Media Won't Tell You About Fossil fuel interests are colluding with billionaire-owned media companies to block the UK's transition towards a cheaper and greener future, argues Donnachadh McCarthy

'The UK electricity price is the most expensive in the world, due to prices being set 99% of the time by the marginal cost of the most expensive electricity other than nuclear, which is fossil gas electricity.'

Billionaires are now in the business of advocating policies that will make the vast majority’s lives tangibly worse in order to make their lives unnoticeably better. Money is an abstraction to keep score for them. But it’s food, health, and shelter for everyone else.

I love that humanity made stories about jinn and faeries and demons and how you shouldn't trust anything that claims to fulfil your wildest wishes without understanding the costs thousands of years ago. At least we've always known how fucking stupid we are.

Covid & Cancer There is now compelling medical evidence that Covid-19 infections can reactivate dormant cancer cells, and trigger the growth of secondary cancers.

This charity has put out info to warn those w a history of cancer to take precautions against covid as it can reactivate cancers v quickly it seems
Obviously other viruses can also increase cancer risks but perhaps not so quickly?
Eg EBV

As ever more research needed

What’s happened here is: these horrible people deliberately fucked over every man, woman and child in these islands, entirely to benefit their own worthless careers. Now, they are going to go down in history as maybe Britain’s most reviled government. And you have to say, they have 100% earned it.
