I would've gone with Gilligan's Island, but yeah.

Picked up a couple of dollar-bin beauts this weekend. The debut of the charismatic rockabilly revivalist featuring legendary guitar lunatic. So much heart & soul. Wow!!!

(1980, Mango)
Incredible (2 volume) compilations of the greatest Jamaican Ska groups of the mid-60s. Mango Records was the Caribbean imprint of Island Records. #vinyl #nowspinning #fridayvibes
Is Rockpile - Seconds Of Pleasure a qualifying release? It seems like it should be, but there might be a gray area. If "yes" its in my T5 for sure. πΈπ₯

Super fantastic LP!
Recording & touring with your spouse? I saw them on this tour and there seemed to be a few seconds of....something. It was great!

The Golden Palominos
s/t (1983, OAO)
A veritable who's who of funky post punk oddballs: Anton Fier, Arto Lindsay, John Zorn, Bill Laswell, Fred Firth, the professor & Maryanne...
This LP hits hard in surprising ways 42 years on.
Let's see some ID!!!

RIP John Lodge
Even though the Moody Blues were hugely successful in their 60s-70s heydey, and again in the 80s, their legacy seems overshadowed by their (lesser) contemporaries. I don't understand it. Now with John's death only Justin Hayward remains.βΉοΈ

Sadly, Paul's voice is gone. But between his great band and everybody in the audience singing along, it might not make a difference. So if seeing Paul is a bucket list thing...its probably now or never.

Music For 18 Musicians (1998/2015)
This American genius achieved 89 years on Friday.
Originally composed/recorded in the mid-70s, Nonesuch got the gang back for a fresh recording of "18" in 1998 for CD release. (LP in 2015)
This is among the greatest works of American music. #vinylsky
Yoko Ono
Fly (1971, Apple)
Relative to the subsequent 50+ years of unconventional recordings, this LP holds up as a landmark of experimental music. Easy to understand that it felt a bit shocking in 71. Fearless. Excellent. #vinylsky #nowspinning

Anyway, the song is pretty mainstream as far as jazz goes - half jazz, half R&B. I can totally imagine Woody dancing to it.
The Ramsey Lewis Trio
The In Crowd (1965, Cadet/Argo)
Based on the popularity of the title track, both LP & single topped the charts 60 years ago along with Help! and I Got You Babe, and all the rest from that spectacular year. We need more funky instrumentals on the charts.

The early stuff was all indie. Rough Trade put the comp together in the UK, and TwinTone released it in the US.

Terminal Tower (1985, TwinTone)
Angular proto-punk compilation of their earliest non-album tracks, 1975-1980. A masterpiece of oddball future vision. Or something...

Yeah, the Who version of Disguises is messed up.
14.09.2025 23:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't remember that. Maybe we were talking about So Sad About Us? I dunno.
14.09.2025 23:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A lot of their early records sound crappy. Disguises is one of my favorites but it sounds terrible. Love it anyway.
14.09.2025 23:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Capitol released a third Beatles 2xLP comp after the Red & Blue records, Rock N Roll Music, which I always liked far more than those double platinum discs.
The Who was a far smaller business enterprise at the time. Meaty was like the Singles Going Steady of it's era. The Tommy single didn't work.
If Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy had I Can't Reach You instead of Pinball Wizard it would be among the greatest compilations ever.
Anyway, Pictures Of Lily is great. Close to the perfect Who tune.
