How have I missed the wonderful prompts of #sewandtell?? Here’s my purple sewing project for this week - a floral print corduroy vest lined with bellflower purple cotton twill. A little hacky but loved by its recipient 🥰 #SewSky 🧵🪡

All the hats! Two years ago, I spent a few weeks knitting toques with all the bits and bobs of yarn in my stash. I think the total count was 9 hats in 4 weeks; most featured a Norwegian star motif and the rest were either self-drafted colourwork patterns or simple rib 🧶 #ShowMeYourKnits #KnitSky

Spooky knits for this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits 👻🎃🧶 Tegna by Caitlin Hunter knit up in Sweet Georgia Yarns Tough Love (I think the colourway is Rustic, but my incredibly helpful notes only say “brown” 😅) The colours have always given me spooky season vibes ✨ #KnitSky

Thanks for the comment - please check the alt text for a description. The yarn is a mystery sock yarn missing its label from my stash. The pattern is self-drafted with reference to @kateatherley.bsky.social Basic Ribbed Socks for the heel turn and gusset 🧦

Thank goodness for local fabric stores - Spool of Thread saved me on a notions order with same-day local delivery so I could complete this hobbit-themed birthday present for a friend 😅 A fun and quick hacky make, but my god do I hate sewing with satin 🙈 #SewSky #GarmentSewing #lotr

As a fellow apartment dweller, I feel this ❤️ And also, I’ve gotten very creative with storage solutions out of necessity and space constraint 🧶 That said, when I did have an art studio, it was only 75sqft 🫣

Oh my goodness YES! Having an adjustable height workspace is revolutionary. I also have recently started adjusting my ironing board height depending on if I’m ironing yardage or pressing seams - I have a rolling chair and roll between the sewing machine and iron as needed when working on projects.

I definitely miss having a dedicated studio space for making where I could have my machines and cutting mats set up and ready to go 😅

Dear #SewSky and #KnitSky, where is your maker space? Do you sew or knit in your home, a making shed or dedicated studio, or out in the community? I share space at home with a WFH desk and previously rented an art studio space. How does the location of your maker space affect your #MakingMotivation?

Stripes for #ShowMeYourKnits! I honestly cannot remember which Noro yarn or colourway this is nor which pattern I used for the shawl… long since gifted and loved but such fun colours and self-striping knit goodness 🌈❤️🧶 #KnitSky

I’ve got my eye on Helen’s Closet Wildwood Jacket - if you’re looking for a quilted coat, it’s drafted for 33”-62” hip measurement. Not sure if that helps but it’s a slimmer fit style that may be easier to grade down as needed to your size.

Yay for scrappy knits! This #BaableHat by Donna Smith is knit up in scraps from my stash, including reflective yarn (white), mystery grey and brown yarn, and cascades 220 heathers forest green yarn. One of my favourite hats! 🐑

It’s been a while - lost in the meditative sea of stockinette stitch, this #WinonaDress by @sari-nordlund.bsky.social is coming together slowly but surely. I’m loving the mocha mousse vibes from the Sandnes Garn Line yarn in Cafe au Lait (3042) colourway. What’s on your needles, #KnitSky?

My wheel is in storage, but my drop spindle is around here somewhere… seems like a good excuse to go to the LYS for fibre (and maybe yarn too) 😅

I also ask myself “would I wear this in a year, 5 years etc” and I’ve begun to challenge myself on construction techniques - am I just trying to get the project done or am I taking the time to use more durable or refined finishing techniques? It’s really helped me to pause and consider slow fashion!

Yes! Opportunistic knitting is the best. To me, knitting can be a form of meditation and mindfulness that helps calm my system and focus my mind too.
