That's true, too. Hyrule Castle, Death Mountain, the land of the Zoras, Kakariko and so on can change visually with tech and art direction while keeping their identity. That's probably not exactly what you had in mind, but (to me at least) how the location "feels" familiar is even more important.

25 years after its launch, Wikipedia remains hugely influential. Its open editing model now faces coordinated "edit wars", where Kremlin-aligned actors rewrite history and cement distorted narratives on one of the world’s most trusted reference platforms.

The Zeldas and some spin offs playing in Hyrule. You get the same world, sometimes in different times, sometimes in other dimensions (LttP had an Upside Down before it was cool and the boring again πŸ˜‰).

I need it, too (at least I think so πŸ˜‰). Honestly, this is one of the games in the current news cycle I am looking forward to the most. It looks like a dream game of past-me, and I can’t wait to get to play it. Thank you for sticking with it, despite everything. πŸ™

If it’s by AdHoc, sure, better check. Others seem to have had no issue getting this right. 🀷

I guess that hits the nail on the head. Let’s hope they do the right thing and save some community trust.

Them outing the β€œcensorship warning” were nobody thought to look is another thing. I believe them when they say it was an honest mistake. Just make it right.

Nothing to be confused about. That’s what happened.

Was it a good call? I kind of doubt it, but it was their call.

Love that for you, preordered the hardcover a while ago and feeling even better about that now.

Congratulations!

Mario, Pikachu and Donkey Kong β€” the joy of Nintendo In Super Nintendo, Keza MacDonald explores the history of the Japanese company that gave us Super Mario, PokΓ©mon and so much more

Bloody hell, a good review of Super Nintendo in the Times.

"The upside of MacDonald’s standing is that you won’t find anyone, I don’t think, with a better insight into the nuts and bolts of these games... Here is a book bursting with love."

I hope we get to hear whether AdHoc actually saved money by self-censoring and only producing one version (and I hope they don’t). Sure, the potential market for a 16 rated release might be larger than 18+, but did that seem to hurt their PC sales (where it has the 18+ rating)?

30.01.2026 16:05 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is entirely AdHoc’s (strange) decision, in order to avoid the 18 age rating, like Cyberpunk for example has on Switch.

Curious as it is 18+ on PC and the Switch has very robust parental controls, too.

They probably thought they’d make more money this way. Curious to see how that works out.

I’m a bit surprised at this, but that might be because my first playthrough was after they published the final patch.

I did not encounter any problems and really enjoyed the game. Maybe given Larian games a few years to mature is the way to go.

And available now for everyone is this extended (11000+ word) look at Resident Evil Village, covering everything from weapon feel to character assassinations of varying types and the pointlessness of decorative corpses:

Oh right, there was another Aliens game at the time, but I never got to play that and it’s been a while so it slipped my mind.

I bet you are the leading provider of childhood flashbacks around here. Thank you. ☺️

I can hear that title screen (C64 version). Cool game, especially considering the successful (IMHO) movie adaption. To me, only Aliens did that better.

I have never even heard of the title until Sasha’s post. It looks and sounds very interesting, though.

Please don’t feel pressured, you just immediately came to mind. ☺️

Germans say β€œbei MΓΌll gilt das Verursacherprinzip”, which is probably something like β€œpolluter pays principle applies to waste”.

Please don’t ship anywhere but dispose at the point of origin and make sure to not produce more.

Thank you. πŸ™

Both sound great, but if you only have time or capacity for one, I’d vote for the article format.

Very nice 😊 Another candidate for me would be Evil Otto from Berzerk. I was so terrified as a little kid whenever he showed up. Unfortunately people would mistake him for a smiley. πŸ™ˆ

The Whitewings are so cute. 😊 Also Tharja is my kind of psycho.

As far as games go, my favorite is probably Fates, which I played together with my son and it sparked his love for strategy games. It’s also a great game, though.

Oh nice! Thanks for the heads up. Shipping to Germany was a bit pricey but whatever. Always feels good to have gamers visible as decent human beings.

This is also why good IT operations teams are under appreciated. β€œWhat are they even doing, the system just runs well anyway”.

To be honest, it sounds great. Especially and unfortunately since the orange dork reigns, the fewer dependencies on US companies, the better.

In transactions involving this new form of money, there will be one anonymised code for the payer, and another for the recipient. The commercial banks will know who those codes relate to, but the ECB won’t.
For those who want a further guarantee, there will be an offline digital euro, as private as cash. You pre-fund a wallet stored on the secure element of your phone. This will be useful in an emergency, such as a power outage, because it will allow proximate payments once your phone is charged. But it’ll be risky too, in that if you lose your phone, you lose your digital wallet, and your cash is gone.

The article seems to state that there are no implications, as the ECB will not see much, only the commercial banks in case you use the online variant. The offline variant is supposed to be like cash.

I’d say that is not β€œgood software quality”, so there would be reservations, of course. But I’d have them even when run as a lower priv user.

Higher privs means more scrutiny, sure. But lower required privs do not equal more trust.

13.12.2025 22:51 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

A lot of commercial software runs their Windows services as SYSTEM. Nothing inherently wrong with that.

Assuming good software quality, reputable supplier, properly signed artifacts and good documentation, no reservations at all.
