I could really use a Supreme Court judgment telling Trump he cannot do tariffs today.

Someone should explain Trump that Greenland is smaller than what it looks on maps

What are in your opinion the best accounts and lists to follow the Greenland crisis on Bluesky?

This is a great representation of the
2026 mid-term elections.

If you’re a woman in academia you find these things out before you’ve even finished your PhD.

I think this is great advice. In my case coming from an Italian public universities I went from low international ranking to the very top and it made a lot of difference for my career. I agree that those universities are pressurised environments with strange dynamics at times.

I understand what you mean. I was also stressed during my PhD at oxford. But I did my undergrad in a public university with no ranking and for sure Oxford changed completely my professional trajectory. It does make a difference.

There's some good advice in this thread, but I'm going to offer another take on #6 here:

The "best" (i.e. most prestigious) program you get into might not be the best fit for you, and you can still have a great career, even if you decide not to put status above everything else.

12) There are tons of great researches and academics what is difficult to find is an academic who is not boring.

13) Social networks are great instruments of knowledge dissemination but most of academic managers have not realised it yet.

9) Good research takes time. Asking people to publish so much is often counterproductive.

10) Micromanaging academics is counterproductive. Providing freedom.

11) Requiring young academics and PhD candidates to ask for permission to go to international conferences kills their career.

6) If you are offered the opportunity to do a PhD or a master at Oxbridge, Harvard or Yale don’t thing twice. Go!

7) Smart work exists in academia as well. Just look for it.

8) Paradoxically the pace of innovation at work can be slower in academia than other
businesses.

3) If your boss is inventing excuses not to promote you beware of their PhD candidate(s).

4) If your cv says that you are really good there is a fair chance that you are really good.

5) Avoid places that are completely isolated from the real world.

I finished my PhD 10 years ago here a few lessons I have learned after 10 years in academia.

1) If you don’t believe in yourself no matter what, this is not the business for you.

2) Only some universities give promotions to out of the box thinkers and disruptive thinkers.

If the Reform Party plan to abolish indefinite leave to remain also abolishes settled status for EU citizens, that would be a breach of the withdrawal agreement, liable to lead to the EU retaliating by removing trade preferences.

Jimmy Kimmel returns tomorrow.

This is an important victory for free speech.

Remember that it was YOU all using your power TOGETHER that got a gigantic corporation to reverse itself.

Bless everyone who participated in telling Mickey Mouse to fuck off.
