2nd. We asked Aurora to model what would happen if we 'scrapped net zero' and leaned into fully unabated gas - it would be more expensive for billpayers than a renewable energy dominated system.

If you're going to the Reform press conference today, which I've heard is covering renewables, worth bearing in mind 2 things

1st there are at least 55 companies in Great Yarmouth who work in offshore wind, employing c500 people

Given current investment plans, we expect to see hundreds more.

I should say, this isn't the end of the story. Govt will need to continue to keep going if it wants to overhaul planning for offshore wind. For example, DEFRA will need to clarify policy around seabirds, resourcing of the planning system will need to increase etc. But the momentum there.

The MRF will be funded by offshore wind farms, and will take forward strategic/co-ordinated measures to support the development of the natural environment.

A boost to nature whilst providing certainty for wind farm developers. A win win for nature, investment, bills, and climate change.

Timely report ahead of Govt's Clean Power 2030 response (expected tomorrow) highlighting just how significant the Welsh, Scottish & N Irish Govts are for delivering renewables (look at wind πŸ‘‡)

Cross-Govt collaboration has definitely been increasing, and we need it to continue

3️⃣ Public-private partnership working can deliver.

Pleased to see the Sec of State intervening here. Govt should continue to get round the table with industry to work on industrial strategy.

2️⃣ We really need to upgrade our port infrastructure if we're going to secure new investment in offshore wind component manufacturing - the plant/port size was a key issue here.

The sooner the National Wealth Fund sets up policy to support new port investment, the better.

Redundancy risk for Vestas Newport turbine blade factory staff About 600 staff at the Vestas factory in Newport are warned they are at risk of redundancy.

Buried in this sad story there's 3 lessons for the UK:

1️⃣ We can secure new jobs in onshore wind - Vestas are looking at refurbishing the factory to focus on onshore wind blades, maintaining 300 workers. This is only possible because of planned onshore wind development

And finally voters think that economic and security arguments for clean power are the strongest

Similarly, potential Conservative voters tended to support a commitment in law to reach net zero by 2050

There was net support from:
πŸ”΅ Reform persuadables (+4)
πŸ”΅ Core Conservatives (+25)
πŸ”΅ Potential Conservatives (+25)
πŸ”΅ Labour and Lib Dem switchers (+53)

And if you breakdown the voters who would consider putting the Conservatives back in No10, they want greater investment in renewable energy - including those Reform switchers currently dominating a lot of discussion.

CT Group & CEN started by establishing floating voters for the Tories
πŸ”΄ 86% of Labour or Lib Dems switchers are open to changing their vote at the next election
πŸ”΅ 45% of Reform switchers are too

Sam Hall: The Conservatives must not abandon net zero. But they must be clever about how it is achieved. | Conservative Home A positive Conservative climate policy can help the party return to power. However the message on climate has to resonate with a broad coalition and pass voters’ hygiene test to restore electoral cred...

Missed this last week - it's the best polling I've seen, post election, on the Conservative approach to net zero πŸ‘‡

Essentially, it's the first I've seen which really explores Reform voters - and actually, the ones Conservatives aim to win back are v pragmatic
