yeah, like. . . 60 bucks was already a big asking price for a game for me. i hardly used my switch 1. i want the kirby air ride sequel but like, if i get it, it's gonna have to be at a yard sale or craigslist or something

funny thing for me to drop last night without elaboration. at their core, they're (typically) 1v1 competitive games with an emphasis on improvement. i don't play as many fighting games as i ought to, but a lot of my improvement in card games has been FROM studying fighting game players.

Like, it's weird how performatively heated some people get about pizza toppings. I don't yell at people just because I don't love pepperoni.

i'm no music expert but i have a lot of thoughts here. it really just works in a way that i just think the homestuck version misses the mark. which is a shame, HS really had some banger tunes, and, hot take alert, i think toby fox's music is generally good

i think the undertale version is a really great 'natural' evolution. the low drone doesn't work in the context of undertale, so it's wisely cut. sans's leitmotif through the rest of the game is sort of a goofier, pared-down version of megalovania, giving it time to gestate in the player's head

the low, droning intro only really works for the halloween hack version. just adding the butt rock guitar and make the melody busier and calling it a day without really adding anything. . . it's a step backward.

Masked Beast Des Gardius, a big Fiend-Type monster. It can only be properly special summoned from your hand by tributing 2 monsters, one of which has to be either Melchid the Four-Face Beast or Grand Tiki Elder-- both of which are bad old monsters with low stats and no effects-- and its only effect is that when it goes from the field to the graveyard, it equips 'Mask of Remnants' from your deck to an opponent's monster to take control of it. Did you know you can revive it after properly summoning it?

PSY-Framelord Omega, a Synchro Monster. A humanoid wearing gilded, futuristic-looking armor and a white grinning mask. He's doing one of those hammy 'milking the scenery' sorts of poses while riding on what appears to be a scooter. He's emitting green lightning. He's not that weird. He's just my favorite. He's got three effects, allowing him to recycle banished cards back to the graveyard, which was REALLY RARE when he first released, an annoying effect that lets him disappear for a turn while temporarily ripping a card from the opponent's hand, and can shuffle himself back into the Extra Deck to be summoned again if he's in the grave by shuffling another card in either grave with him. I love recycling effects, and I love hard to deal with boss monsters. He'll always be my favorite.

When YGO is in a bad state, I don't go to another card game, I just end up wishing YGO was good again. No other game even tries to be like it. Both mechanically and stylistically, it really sticks out.

That's why I fell in love with the game. It's why it's a shame no one else is tryin' to do it.

Switch Point, a Yu-Gi-Oh card depicting the trolley problem. When your opponent controls 3 or more monsters, you choose one of them, and they can either choose to kill it, or 'pull the lever' and kill the rest of their monsters instead.

Helpoemer, a monster card. After it's destroyed by battle, as long as it remains in your Graveyard, every time your opponent ends their Battle Phase, they must discard a random card. This effect is NOT a one-time discard, it's EVERY time your opponent enters and leaves their Battle Phase.

3. pack filler cards in yugioh are good. no other game really consistently prints bad cards that are mechanically interesting like this. Weird summoning conditions! Weird effects!

i've joked about it in the past, and i'm sorry, but anyone who still ships shanks and buggy after that flashback, in my brain, just has to be an only child.

i just do not believe you have ever had a brother if your reading of their dynamic was romantic. cannot see it.

It has a lot of great story beats. The OST has some really strong stuff, Sadness & Happiness is an all-timer track. Glitz Pit was a lot of fun. Doopliss is a really fun character. Partner HP change is nice.

But I don't like superguards all that much, and PM64 and SPM just have way better OSTs. . .

1. So, I think a lot of us are on the same page that the first 3 Paper Mario games are really good. Classics. PM64, TTYD, SPM.

TTYD is really good, don't get me wrong, but...

PM64 is consistently really good throughout, and if I want a game with high highs and low lows, I'm gonna play SPM.

yeah sure i'm gonna get like 3 likes at most, i probably got enough in the tank
