I'm stoked to have been invited to talk about @strongtowns-carmel.bsky.social on this podcast with @bthibbs.bsky.social!

We talked about what makes Carmel unique, why we chose to move here with just one car, and why I don't wear spandex πŸ˜†

Indiana’s other large cities have mass transit. Why don’t those in Hamilton County? Hamilton County is an outlier. Of Indiana's 10 most populous cities, every city has a municipal bus service, except Carmel, Fishers and Noblesville.

Every one of Indiana's 10 biggest cities has had a municipal bus service for decades.

Except for Carmel, Fishers and Noblesville. πŸ€”

Soon you’ll be able to rent, buy, or get service for a @bunchbike.com e-cargo bike at the Pedego Bike Shop in downtown Carmel, Indiana.

Nothing gets people thinking about family biking like seeing one roll by in real life and I expect a quiet boom once these start showing up on the streets.

Before this development, it was mostly small warehouses along an abandoned train track that was turned into a multi-use path. South of this area, a few fields were built on. This is all in the center of Carmel.

While the 126th Street bridge might be closed, requiring residents to drive a 3 mile detour, the multi-use path remains open for biking and walking!

The city recently received the results of a transit implementation study. It recommended phasing in micro-transit followed by a bus system. Hopefully some form of public transportation is available sooner rather than later. The current on-demand system in the county is inadequate.

In Support of Off-Street Paths - Strong Towns Carmel Everyone should feel safe walking and riding everywhere Carmel, not just along the Monon. A new proposed off-street path would take our city to the next level.

A friend wrote this great piece on why we need the Autumn Greenway in #CarmelIndiana. My family lives car-lite and off-street paths make that possible. If you agree, please take a moment to sign the letter of support.

It should be the standard, but I feel like we got the red carpet treatment with the Monon Square development detour in Carmel. I've seen too many other cities close down sidewalks and multi-use paths without providing an alternative.

How we move through urban environments shapes how we experience life. One path fosters connection and awareness, the other disconnects, isolates, and distracts.
