The fact they jumped straight to AI actors modeled after women when, if Iโ€™m not mistaken, male actors are a higher labor cost kind of says it all doesnโ€™t it,

At my old law firm we used to joke about so-and-so being a "Third Amendment specialist" because it was so incredibly funny to imagine a Third Amendment case ever happening. Kristi Noem is a second away from telling everyone to hold her beer. bsky.app/profile/port...

He Grew Obsessed With an AI Chatbot. Then He Vanished in the Ozarks Jon Ganz committed a terrible crime in his youth, but he survived prison, fell in love, and started over. His new life unraveled in a way nobody could have predicted.

This is the biggest, toughest article Iโ€™ve done about so-called โ€œAI psychosis.โ€ Itโ€™s the story of a man who committed a horrific crime in his youth but served his time and against all odds found love and a new lifeโ€”one that completely unraveled after he started talking to Googleโ€™s Gemini chatbot.

I think that "separate spheres" played a big role in this too - romantic marriages weren't really a thing and both sexes often got most of their emotional intimacy from same sex relationships.

Opinion | Autism Has Always Existed. We Havenโ€™t Always Called It Autism.

This is such a nuanced and big-hearted piece on the evolution of autism as a diagnosis, by an anthropologist of mental health who is also the dad of a now-grown daughter on the spectrum. Great reading (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2025/09/24/o...

As paper titles involving TB go, this one using the rhyming Fc is not bad...

This map of the US shows COVID levels per state, based on CDC wastewater data and levels, as of 15 September. There are many states in the very high or high category. My own state of VA is high. Included in the very high category are FL, TX, CA, NC, SC, CT and quite a few others.

This is my hand-printed 11" x 14" lino block print of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), surrounded by plants and a mineral she touted as medical treatments, her invented alphabet and model of the universe, on lovely ivory Japanese washi paper. She is printed in dark blue on cream coloured washi paper. She is dressed in a habit holding a scroll with one of her Gregorian chants in Medieval musical notation. Her model of the universe is depicted on her habit. Clockwise from the top, she is surrounded: by tansy; common comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is sometimes used on the skin to treat wounds and reduce inflammation from sprains and broken bones, it roots and leaves contain allantoin, a substance that helps new skin cells grow, along with other substances that reduce inflammation and keep skin healthy; mandrake (species in the genus Mandragora, either Mandragora officinarum or Mandragora autumnalis) which contain deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids which are poisonous; sulfur for skin ailments does indeed act as a fungicide; lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) which has been shown to have some calming effects, some antibacterial properties and positive effects on indigestion; and quince (Cydonia oblonga), which while understudied, there is some early evidence that it may help prevent stomach ulcers. Above and below Hildegard is the alphabet along with her own alternate alphabet Litterae ignotae which she used for her own Lingua ignota (Unknown Language).

Robert Redford (RIP) survived a childhood bout of polio though bedridden for 2 weeks

In 2014, he directed a short film on the architecture and mission of La Jolla's Salk Instituteโ€”honoring founder Jonas Salk, inventor of the polio vaccine that has saved countless lives, and architect Louis Kahn

Robert Redford: The 'Fresh Air' Interview Redford has announced that he's retiring from acting, and that his role in the new film The Old Man and the Gun, will be his last. In 2013, he said it was "sort of weird" being known for his looks.

In 2018, Robert Redford recalled contracting polio as a child: โ€œit was severe enough to put me in bed for two weeks. And because in those days, polio, before the Salk vaccine was discovered, what hung over your childhood was always the fear of polio because all you saw were people in iron lungs.โ€
