I also did not realize just how sync his style is with the sort of thing Sporn did in The Hunting of the Snark. I did not realize how much like Bambi this is, either, and much less clinical than that is.

I'm eager to continue my slow Sunday journey through Sporn's major work in the coming weeks.

For this Sunday's arthouse watching, I watched Abel's Island. I admit that, as far as this "sprawling New Yorker shit" (to quote Charlie Kaufman goes), Steig is much more pleasing to me than Thurber is.

Word of advice to myself: If something appears to be flattering your ego, look at it extra-skeptically.

CITY's transitions are getting better and better.

I like that we're still getting introduced to new characters in CITY six episodes in.

I just finally watched Fritz the Cat. Honestly, I am much more sympathetic toward Bakshi's point of view than Crumb's, but still, the movie gets too wrapped up in "wow we just said fuck wow we just showed tits" to showcase the aspects of Bakshi's worldview that I sympathize with.

Much like with Fate/Apocrypha, Witch From Mercury is probably where I begin and end my acquaintance with Gundam, but much like with Fate/Apocrypha, it hits my action spots in a very welcome way.

This is definitely not clinical or anything of that sort (which I've come to realize is a key reason I ended up sliding off of Don Hertzfeldt), but regardless, I still just can't get inside of it, as much as I'd like to be able to.

Look Back is something where, try as I might (I watched it twice over a couple weeks to be sure I was giving it a fair shake), I can only feel the mechanics of what I'm supposed to feel as opposed to the actual feelings.

Okay, I now know who my favourite character in CITY is going to be, lol. (Tekaridake.)

The show feels a piece with Patlabor and Kino’s Journey in terms of what I get out of it, even if I don’t think it’s as “great” as either. Chasing down the full implications of that conclusion is probably going to take me a long time, but I’m happy to be able to now get started on that.

I got interested in the show because of what I had heard about Chisato, and she fulfilled my expectations completely. I found her to be really resonant and entertaining.

Lycoris Recoil fulfills my thriller itch quite well. It’s not a “perfect” show (but then, what is, really?), but it’s a show I personally find deeply enthralling.

I liked Yuri!!! On ICE and Free! well enough, but this is my favourite sports anime I’ve seen in my life so far. I’m very glad I finally got around to watching it.

CITY has got me in the mood to watch some anime, so I watched Overtake! this week. It’s very masculine but sensitive in the way I’ve wanted from something for a while now. It also feels very… human in a way that I’ve also been wanting from something for a while now.

After nearly two years, I've finally made it through every Looney Tunes short.

The dragon of those 5 & 2/3rds (Unicorn warrants a fraction) cartoons is a dragon I suspect I will long be chasing, and I wish more of the shorts matched up to their standard.

I ended up recalibrating my own standards a couple of times during my UPA watchthrough, and this is where I ended up with them.
