The Spinach Is Wilting - Offrange Fusarium wilt is a destructive fungal disease that has long vexed spinach seed farmers in the Pacific Northwest. Researchers may have found a fix.

When spinach seed crops started wilting in the Pacific Northwest, pathologist Lindsey du Toit began hunting for a solution. Now, her team has found a wild spinach variety from Central Asia that can resist the wilt-causing pathogen. My latest- share.google/Fb5QDrvRatXi...

The Cost Of Salt India’s salt-production industry has seen massive growth over the past 75 years, but the working conditions of the country’s salt pan workers are deteriorating.

Salt production in India is undertaken by thousands of workers who spend hours in the sun, even during heatwaves. This has caused chronic kidney dysfunction among them.

In my first for @inthesetimes.com, I write about this disease burden.

Effective May 5, 2025, NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) will decommission its snow and ice data products from the Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics Science Division (COGS). As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basicβ€”meaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported. This includes Sea Ice Index, Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS) Data Products, Glacier Photograph Collection, U.S. National Ice Center Arctic Sea Ice Charts and Climatologies in Gridded Format Gridded Monthly Sea Ice Extent and Concentration, 1850 Onward World Glacier Inventory. If you rely on these products in your work, research, education, or planning, we invite you to share your story at nsidc@nsidc.org. Your input can help us demonstrate the importance of these data sets and advocate for future support.

This is horrible. I don't even know what to say. Some of our most key polar data.

Emissions from Coal-Fired Power Plants May Lower Crop Yields in India - Eos Nitrogen dioxide may reduce wheat and rice crops by more than 10%, according to a new study.

Most of India's electricity comes from coal-fired power plants. For @Eos.org, Scienceline's @pragathiravi.bsky.social explores possible consequences of these plants for the country's agriculture.
