We spoke with her after the council meeting tonight. She explained it was a procedural thing, that the appropriation shouldn't have been on the agenda until they had a workshop that hadn't happened yet.

We were told later he's the head of the town's repub committee.

One extremely gross man, saying 65! violent criminals arrested by ice. "These aren't my numbers, they came from online!" As he shows his phone screen to the council.

A couple of old online cranks, speaking over zoom, literally calling for "revolution" over trash pickup.

Dozens of residents speaking against the actions of ice and in support of strengthening the trust act. My wife was one of them.

It was a good meeting.

City council public comments tonight, first time we've been able to make this one.

When I did sleep I dreamt of a repub councilman saying shit like "We're done trying to blend in with this radical community and done going along with these greedy woke librarians that are bankrupting our town and stealing from our hero police" and I woke up madder then I went to bed.

Even if that's the case, and there's not enough money... Why the underhanded performative vote in favor only to take it back behind their back

But I guess there's not enough money in the budget to give the library 46k to pay their staff? Literally the center of the community.

I realize city council votes/librarian salaries pale in comparison to the greater geopolitical situation. But we moved here for the community and progressive city politics.

Yet they gave 500k to the police in the same meeting and argued about whether it was enough.

When I say I'm mad as hell, I barely slept last night fr. I really hope we just misunderstood what happened and there's more to the story. 8/?

They still might not even know. There were only like 3 other residents present besides wife and I. For us, lesson well learned, ALWAYS stay for the whole council meeting even if you think your business is concluded. 7/?

But I'm mad as hell tbh. The poor librarians left thinking they got a cost of living increase only for it to be taken back as soon as they were out the door. 6/?

Disheartening, it definitely read to us that the council voted one way in front of the supporters of the measure, only to reverse the decision after the supporters left. It came off to us as underhanded and dirty, but maybe we don't really understand what we saw. We are new to this. 5/?

We emailed the councilperson that we have a friendly relationship with (she was one of the 2 original nay votes) to find out what that was all about. 4/?

Wife and I were among like 5 residents that stayed for the whole meeting and witnessed this. 3/?

Then, after the library supporters left the chamber, the council voted to revisit, then table the issue. 2/?

Last night at the city council meeting we watched the council vote in favor (9 to 2, I think) of a modest salary increase for the librarians with the librarians present in the chamber. 1/?

One thing I do want to bring to the autism discussion is that i think it's easy to forget about the highest support needs autistic people and their families. That shit is really, REALLY hard. But the answer is not eugenics! It's money and support for those families!
