Trump keeps reminding me (and I’ve said it here more than once so apologies for going on) of the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes. He talks utter bollocks and is deludedly confident of his statesmanship but no one of influence challenges him. Eg the state visit fiasco was shameful!

They never do! It’s like the story of the emperor’s new clothes in real life, although the image of Trump doing a press conference naked is not to be dwelt on.

Made me laugh a lot and sing stupid lyrics in New Brighton. The man next to me said he’d seen a lot of good support acts but you were one of the best.

IMO Sadiq Khan got it right (if applied to UK):

To make speeches referencing ‘islands of strangers’ (too late to apologise); to promote Trump; to be so slow and pathetic in responding to Saturday’s TR protest; to seemingly ignore the call by Musk for his government to be dissolved whilst continuing to use X, (is that enough for now?)

I expected him to be a Labour pm and to have some integrity and humanity. I didn’t expect him to accept vanity freebies; to cut PIP esp before having evidence; to cut fuel payments at such a low threshold; to pander completely to Reform’s rhetoric & agenda; to appoint idiots and worse; TBC

I’m 70. I was a member of the Labour Party for over 40 yrs until resigning earlier this year. I have never felt as angry, despairing and betrayed as I do today, for which I entirely blame Starmer. He has been a disaster from day 1, has squandered a massive opportunity and has harmed the UK.

Thank goodness for Channel 4; an antidote to the sycophantic BBC & ITV. It’s sickening that, alongside Starmer, they perpetuate the lie that Trump deserves the respect and pomp of this state visit. I’m with the brilliant and much-missed Janey Godley on this.

Starmer seems to be avoiding/ignoring the bit where Musk called for the dissolution of parliament and the change of his government.

Starmer: Did anything happen whilst I was at the football Morgan?

MM: Apart from a massive far-right rally at which a malignant, foreign agitator called for the dissolution of your government, no.

Starmer: Oh awks! I’ll ignore that and say something about flags instead. No one will notice.

Typical of Starmer; too little, too late and completely avoids the biggest and most direct threat ie Musk’s interference.

What’s more, and worse, it’s a Labour government! Where are the principles, the ideology, the integrity, the decency?

Much worse than a disappointment in my book; I feel utterly betrayed by Starmer and his lemming-like government.

Starmer has about 15 Achilles’ heels but his incredibly poor judgement , married with indecision, is one of the most dangerous. He should take a lesson from the King and remove Mandelson from public life as Charles removed Andrew. Now. Being sorry for the victims is platitudinous and unhelpful.

Other low points inc: ‘island of strangers’; changing PIPs before collecting/analysing evidence; saying he liked and respected Trump 🤢; kowtowing so fervently to the Reform agenda; failing to wholeheartedly condemn Farage’s inhumane proposals inc potential of returns agreement with Taliban (WTAF) ..

Having been a Labour member for over 40 years (resigned in disgust in spring) I feel utterly betrayed by Starmer. The writing was on the wall early on when he accepted gifts of expensive clothes & glasses whilst large % of the electorate was struggling to feed, house, warm & clothe its families.
