Over the past 60 years, there have been several attempts to move forward with a national pharmacare program.

And while the program today only applies to contraceptive and diabetes medications, devices and supplies, and hormone replacement therapy for menopause, it marks an important shift in public health care and the public provision of pharmaceuticals to Canadians.

No one should be forced to choose between accessing needed medications or putting food on their table.

HEU congratulates the British Columbia and federal governments for reaching today's historic pharmacare agreement to make prescription drugs more affordable for people.
