sorry to hear, but sadly not uncommon. same thing happened to us in Australia, Canada and Denmark - basically had to start by building credit using a debit card for a while every time...(which meant even in a tenured position I couldn't hire a car, haha)

Thanks to an epic effort by Estelle Toulme and the rest of the Christian Rosenmund lab we were then able to show that the interaction also plays a physiological role in neurons - and that NALCN may be the molecular culprit of the neuronal death which occurs when syntaxin is removed from the cell...

Our latest paper on the sodium leak channel NALCN complex is now online. We found that the neuronal SNARE proteins syntaxin 1A and SNAP25 inhibit sodium leak currents both in heterologous systems and in neurons!
