Mind you I do think that if David Sylvian had shaved his head and started wearing leather shorts then Nick Rhodes would have done it a week later.

Lovely writing again. Even a snarky old git like me marvels at the effect music can have on people, even bands I don’t particularly like. The love of music and for Mrs LK always comes through these pieces.

I’m not judging anyone else obv. People can pay whatever they fuck they want for their experiences. It’s just me.

I’m sure it will be an amazing experience. It’s a lot of money though. I hated myself for giving in and paying Β£70 to see Cave/Ellis

Trying to think of a band, featuring only one original member, that I would pay Β£110 to see.

Struggling.

If we’re going to cancel rip off degree subjects let’s start with PPE at Oxbridge.

I’m still not entirely sure this is a real product, but if it is then this might be the greatest gear ad ever made.

Having a similar experience with Vineland which I’m told is β€˜dead easy to read’ for Pynchon.

Really enjoying the Arsenal supporters complaining about Donnarumma’s time wasting. And Arteta whinging about someone feigning injury. The karma is beautiful.

Yeah I loved reading his stuff back then too. His recent stuff is fantastic. Definitely recommend the collection β€œit gets me home, this curving track” and the Fassbinder book is also great. I haven’t read the Satie one yet. Always look out for him being in LRB.

Ian Penman brilliant as ever on Brian Eno.

Nicely articulates how (even to those of us who worshipped at the Church of Bri) he can be simultaneously fabulous and irritating. For 10 years he created some of the most exciting music on the planet but then there is also the tedious generative stuff.

I really liked Denver Luna off the last album. One note throughout and a nice acappella at the end.

Yeah definitely, one or two songs I’m not so bothered about but there are a few that aren’t bad for a bunch of lads from Barnsley πŸ˜‰

Wish the first album had been better produced though.

Yeah, mostly great, especially early on. Started to go shit after signing with Arista.

Have you seen the Futurama 2 line up? That was awesome. With the exception of a certain character on the Sunday. We played on the Saturday (down as Y? on the bill).

I do remember it. The most vivid memory was that it was an ice rink and I think they had just laid some covering over the ice so it was really wet and absolutely fucking freezing. Not exactly the hellscape of Leeds Queens Hall (Futurama 2) but not far off πŸ˜‰

Well as preparation for One Battle After Another I started to read Pynchon’s Vineland but I’m really bogged down in the hipster vernacular.

Taking a break with the help of Yoko Ogawa after loving The Memory Police.

I think the clash of all the different ideas was what made them unique and great. Like you say, as some of the interesting bands members left and it seemed to focus more and more on Tom, they became less interesting. Still capable of good stuff but not as wild.

Really loved dEUS but this was the start of me losing interest. Still a few great songs on here though and Sun Ra is absolutely fantastic.
