I’m old enough at this point to remember 3 separate decades of β€œremember when we had a booming middle class”.

Imagine if Republicans had worked with Dems to steadily improve ACA after it became law instead of undermining it at every opportunity. Isn't that how government *should* work? Dems have built every facet of gov support for affordable healthcare, from Medicare on, while GOP *always* works against it

If people voted for the least bad choice in every election, incrementally, we'd get to a good place. It ain't gonna happen in one single election all at once. However, as Trump has shown, if people sit out the election & let a truly bad candidate win, things can get much *worse* almost overnight.

You're preaching to the purity testers on Bluesky. I get almost as discouraged by the thick headed lefties on here as I do by the fascists on X.

Roper: Jacob Frey can thank the far left for handing him another term Frey was a vulnerable incumbent. But progressives banked on the wrong guy to beat him.

It's worth paying attention to mistakes made in Minneapolis where the *other* democratic socialist mayoral candidate lost to a third-term incumbent www.startribune.com/jacob-frey-r...

Mr. Musk addressed some of those concerns obliquely, saying the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, was the singular solution for addressing poverty. The robot remains under development.

β€œPeople often talk about eliminating poverty, giving everyone amazing medical care. Well, there’s actually only one way to do that, and that’s with the Optimus robot,” Mr. Musk said. β€œYou start getting into like, some pretty wild sci-fi sort of scenarios.”

This passage puts Musk's arrogance and moral blinders on full display. At DOGE, Musk destroyed USAID and weakened other part of the compensatory state that have been shown to effectively address poverty. Yet here he babbling about robots and "wild sci-fi scenarios" as the "only way" to do so.

Billions for Trump's "Golden Dome" fantasy: waste, fraud, stupidity, & abuse of common sense. Remember Reagan's "Strategic Defense Initiative"? Senile old Republicans love to shovel money into fantastic military tech boondoggles while down on Earth people can't afford food or healthcare.

Yep. Trump has revealed that much of the good we thought was baked into government by the Constitution was in fact due to "folkways" -- traditions & norms that aren't codified but have been "naturally" followed for generations. All it takes to destroy democracy is one president who wants to be king

It's a crime she isn't in DC busting monopolies, but I'm sure whatever she does in NYC will be good for all.

INTERESTING TIMES WITH ROSS DOUTHAT Mamdani's Victory Is Less Significant Than You Think

we can chalk it up to youth and inexperience but the biggest mistake the mamdani campaign made was winning by 8.8% and not 1.5%, which is the margin needed for the media to say it’s a total mandate

When you're both out of touch with everyday reality bc you've been a rich asshole your entire life AND you're senile.

"AI based agents for customer support" SUCK. Now instead of navigating a labyrinthine phone menu to eventually reach a human for help, you have to banter with an AI agent that repeats itself endlessly. Is it really so costly for companies to have human agents, which every customer would prefer?

Please vote to stop Mamdani because if rich people get 80% of wealth instead of 90% society will collapse

Trump should have been arrested the same day the FBI discovered top secret documents in a Mar-a-Lago bathroom.

It's futile to debate either side of the question. The music you listened to in your youth, say under 30 yrs old, during your good times, your open-minded exploratory phase of life, will always shape the aesthetic standards you'll apply to music forevermore as you get older & hear new stuff.

I was thinking the drought in developments is due to DOJ/FBI incompetence. It is very strange, that's for sure.

I like the old one! Not "art deco" but mid-century modern. It evokes the post-WW2 Truman/Eisenhower era when it was built. Again, Trump erasing history from the White House & turning it into a dictator's kitsch palace.

The capitalist system was built on the violent theft of land and resources, the violent suppression of labor, and the violent spread of imperial power. We should absolutely do all we can to fight with nonviolent means but there is a big hard wall looming ahead of us and we're about to crash into it

He agreed with 2 points, which 60% of Dem voters also support: Trans women shouldn't compete w biological women in sports & parental consent for children under 18 to get puberty blockers, etc. Both are losing issues for Dems, I'm sorry. Newsom has a great record advancing trans rights in CA.

Netanyahu is continuing to commit genocide.

It was never about hostages.

It was never about a single day event.

It’s about colonialism, occupation, propaganda & megalomania.

We are dealing with these core issues here, too.

Simplification & consistency will do the world a world of good.

Israel's concept of "ceasefire" in Gaza is strike whenever they feel like it, then say they're "resuming the ceasefire" -- i.e. it's meaningless except as an ongoing PR stunt for Netanyahu. Another big joke in Trump' foreign policy. He's thoroughly owned by Netanyahu.

the market works. And there are many undiscussed variables affecting whether or not the market will actually work as advertised. Meanwhile so-called NIMBY skeptics are branded as being interested only in their property values, when, in fact, there's usually much more at stake. Cf Trump's ballroom

I get that new housing must rent or sell at market rates, with the promise that, over time, as the supply of available units increases, market rates will naturally decrease. But that doesn't address the immediate problem of unaffordability. Needs to be a mechanism to help people stay housed while...

When I see actual affordable housing on the ground, I'll be more convinced. So far, I see developers getting a pass to plow over existing neighborhoods to build high density mixed use projects with a relatively tiny number of affordable units.

I get the "Abundance" agenda's frustration with slow regulatory process, but let's be honest, the NIMBY label has become just another tool for developers to bypass issues like historic preservation, neighborhood integrity, environmental impacts, habitability vs density, &, yes, affordability.
