The only reason it could be categorized as a horror movie is because by the time you get a quarter of through the film (before anything scary happens), you are completely emotionally involved with the characters that you wish the movie was just end and everyone is happy.

I do not like horror movies. This is not horror movies. It’s not built on jump scares or grotesque scenes filled with gore.

Go see Sinners this weekend. You will not be disappointed.

I think a lot about how Black educators (myself included!) perpetuate the notion of ‘Black excellence’ with Black students.

Black children do not need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated like children. They shouldn’t need to be ‘excellent’ to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.
