Scanning negatives into Photoshop v7 in a Windows 2000 virtual machine. Lower right is a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED whose software does not play so well in native 64-bit, hence the VM which allows it to work flawlessly.

Horrendous rainy weather means it’s time to start catching up with an almost two year backlog of scanning film. Many I’d forgotten I’d taken. A few nice surprises plus some really wonky horizons to remind me I still need to try harder 📏 #filmphotography

Thanks – I might pick up a cheap-ish 55 with fungus at some point (just to save money!) and clean it up. There are several at around 1/3 the price of a clean one. Also, agree that the 28 is a gem. I quite like my older (radioactive!) 1:2.8/35 as well 😅

That 1:1.2/55 though! How do you like it, compared to the 50s? I have a 1:1.4/50 which unfortunately has some balsam separation in the rear group but if I'm careful with glancing sunlight it's lovely. Often wondered about the 55.

This lens confirms my conversion from brand snobbery. First the wonderful Sigma lenses for my Leica SL a few years ago. Not long ago I’d have balked at 3rd party lenses for my Nikon digitals but LOVE how this Tamron 28-75 renders and it’s so light for a const f/2.8. Superb! #camerafriday #winefriday

Isopropyl will do it. That "soft touch" stuff should be banned, IMO. Massive PITA. Less of an issue for, say, a camera back or remote control but I have a pair of floor standing speakers (ELAC) whose entire front baffle is coated in the stuff. Horrendous sticky horribleness now, attracting dust.

Intentions are there... falling asleep on the sofa by 9 is pretty much guaranteed though 😴

The Dark Side

Olympus G. Zuiko Auto-W 35mm 1:2.8 silver-nose with Olympus skylight 1A filter attached. A Radiacode 103 detector/spectrometer is shown in front of it, reading a moderate amount of radiation detected at 0.62 micro Sieverts per hour. Its detection light has turned red and alarms have sounded. This will be due to an element having glass made with thorium. I did not know this lens was radioactive until I happened to test it today.

I struggle with that decision. Usually I don’t but have seen a fair few howlers. I once wrote to Amateur Photog to say their article description of the Nikon FE2 was incorrect (that ages me!) which they accepted and printed! Retailers are different though, and eBay sellers something else entirely!

You are right, as far as I can tell. Looking at the manual for the OM-10, the socket is described as the Manual Adatpter Socket only; it does not double as a Flash socket. Also, in the main specs section, it says “Flash synchronization: X contact. Direct contact only” which would confirm.

Love that you do this. I'm currently in need of a main reflex mirror for an otherwise perfectly working Contax RX. Unlikely, I know. I'll keep an eye on what you have though, as I may want to replace tatty/damaged parts on other bodies.

Not too steep IMO. Several on eBay, mostly cheaper but an awful lot of "untested" (=probably not working well); only a few with matching flash. Sadly Polaroid isn't my thing but if it were I'd have yours over one from eBay any day, esp. given condition, flash & filters and knowing it def. works!

Pentax-M 50mm 1:1.7 lens which was riddled with fungus and now clean.

This lens was in a bargain bucket outside a camera shop in Switzerland, looking dirty, wet and sorry for itself. Nasty fungus on several internal surfaces. 5 CHF (about a fiver). Just finished testing after a comprehensive clean and it’s now all sparkly and sharp. I love a bargain, me 🎞️ #Pentax
