The book club scam has taken an exciting new leap forward. I got one today from a "curated literary platform and newsletter" that, unusually, offered a link to its website. I'm in edits, so obviously I took the opportunity to procrastinate. /1

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

I wish I were compatible with audiobooks, it would make book consumption while vision limited much easier -- but I spent so many years as a transcriptionist at the speed of sound that audiobooks tap straight into my "disengage brain, engage fingers, TYPE FAST NAO" reflex and I can't process it!

The irony is that when I had about 100 people on the other sites I could theoretically have watched my whole list if they would have allowed me to escape the algorithm and the advertising. Now that I have about 2500 people I want to watch, and no algorithm to defeat, I still can't scroll far enough?

I'd love to be able to say "hmm here's people on the other side of the world whose stuff I don't usually see because on the bright side there's no algorithm here but on the downside pure chonology means I rarely see posts from folks in other places."
