It's sad when you think a story's found its forever home and then it doesn't work out. But I am accepting that the magazine that took it is gone. I feel bad that they paid me and never got around to using the story, cos I know how tight it is for small pubs... But back into the world it goes.

Today I:

1) tackled my junk drawer
and
2) leant that @joannechocolat.bsky.social made a giant sculpture of Chocolat rejections and then set it on fire

Both of these things have been really great for how I'm feeling.

Geez, the word counts are getting tighter and tighter. If it's any consolation, my debut YA fantasy is 86k. So, even if this person caps out at... my guess is 80k, that's not universal.

You accomplished providing emotional and physical security for Most Precious Being, and gentle relaxation for yourself. Cat hugs are a great use of time.

My brain is wonderful, because in the phase between sleep and waking, it came up with the whole of a perfect chapter.

My brain is frustrating, because it keeps wandering into entirely unrelated things now I'm trying to write it down.

I’m surprised that’s not the end of the conversation as far as you’re concerned.” She raised her eyebrows. “You have vetoed people over lesser crimes.” “But he wants to. I started him on them today. So, it’s even better. I get to watch him discovering them. We talked through what he’d read so far, and it was like getting to read them again for the first time—having all that excitement about what might happen.”

One of the morals of this story is 'find someone who will geek out about your favourite books with you.' I think that's a pretty good moral.

Question... what practical uses could ice powers have? So far I have:
- refreshing beverages
- saving the (ant)arctic

And literally nothing in between. Maybe air con? But you'd have to just... stand there. And be able to do cool air, not ice, otherwise too messy.

GAME CHANGER.

Today at work, I learnt that I can put two things through the laminator at the same time. They both laminate fully and don't stick together.

What sorcery is this and why was it kept from me for so long?

The Energy Makers’ Guild was at the end of the line, and there were so few passengers left the tram had switched to electric so as not to be a selfish use of magic. He could see the generator building in the near distance, technically under the purview of his new guild though he hadn’t given it much thought. No one else had either, judging by the way it sat off to the side. Out now!
