Went out to grab a drink and food and I swear the playlist at this place tonight has just been theme songs or music from 80s TV/movies with an occasional weirdly long hardcore song mixed in and I'm. Why are you creating this vibe. This isn't even a vibe.

I have almost no insecurities about going out for food by myself but also it is less than ideal when a server tells me they "love to normalize eating alone" when I ask for a table bc the bar is full

Honestly kind of feel like playing Uncle Chop's Rocket Shop (*not* frantic mode) has improved my ability to follow multi-step written directions, especially in product manuals. I seem to be doing less skimming and missing things. Thanks video games!

How the past is presented to us shapes how we see the now and the future. Framing things as individual tragedies/triumphs reinforces the American idea of individualism+ exceptionality...removing the larger context and preventing people from seeing the institutional constructs that put/keep us here.

This is possibly boring and theoretically well known. I'm nobody over here, but I don't think it's as well known/recognized/understood as it could be.

And this serves to make the civil rights movement seem distant, past, a battle already fought and "won"-- MLK was assassinated in 1968. 57 years ago.

I don't really have anything smart to add here, other than I also think a lot about the fact that every year on MLK day, we see black and white pictures of King and the marches, when color photos exist and we are well past the need to print in B&W for cost or other reasons.

when in reality the best examples of what we're dealing with now are in our own country's past and present (Jim Crow, segregation, slavery, genocide).

Been thinking a lot about people raising the point that it's ridiculous/reductive/maybe defensive/obfuscative that when presenting analogs to our current political situation in the US, people often look outside-- to other countries, other (further in the past) times (WWII Germany, N Korea)--

In the course of some volunteer work I had to sign up for an account on a site that tracks information about members of congress-- I am dying at this default "who are you" response. Like yes, that about sums it up.

Hi hello I'm new here but I've been lurking for a bit. This is me getting over the first page in the sketchbook thing by posting. Def can't say I'll keep posting but an attempt was made.
