Especially liked this: 'Because when Māori say no – to privatisation, to deregulation, to exploitation – that “no” isn’t a threat to peace. It’s a threat to profit.
And that’s why it’s being undermined.'

Cartoon. Title: Growth & Development. In the right of the frame a baby MP Shane Jones is smashing up with a hammer the words CONSERVATION and REGIONAL COUNCILS. A toy Kiwi, Dolphin, snail, frog, and some people are flying out. Mum and Dad MP Casey Costello and Winston Peters are looking on, cuddled up, and Casey is saying, “Awww”

Subs on the Regulatory Standards Bill close at 1pm tomorrow. Doesn't have to be fancy, just state that you oppose it, that you recommend it not be passed, and maybe mention that you oppose it's ignoring of Te Tiriti and prioritising of individualised property rights over all other values.

As I understand it, much of the money 'from McDonalds' for Ronald McDonald House comes from getting their staff to donate every week out of their near minimum wage pay checks.

To live free of violence is a human right. To control one's own reproduction is a human right. Democratic participation is a human right. Food, shelter, education are human rights. They may manifest differently if you have a uterus, or are indigenous, or disabled, etc, but they are HUMAN. RIGHTS.

#MWSecretSantaAoNZ Just opened my secret santander gift. What a heart-warming gift on a freezing cold night. The panaforte looks delightful, and maybe home crafted? So excited about the Catherine Chidgley book. Loved her last one and haven't yet read this one. Thank you to my Secret Santa

Is anyone else hearing rumours of a general strike on women's suffrage day? I guess one way to achieve that legally would be for people en masse to take a day's unpaid leave - ie each tell the employer, rather than ask, that you will be on unpaid leave- like many of us did for the climate strikes.

A card reading 'Happy Mother's Day. To all you women, mothers, and child free alike! Thank you for selflessly giving up fair pay and for sacrificing your families, your welfare, your security, and your retirement, to save our budget. You are the best!' With an image of Nicola Wolillis and Luxon clapping and Brook Van Velden beeping like a little bot.

Plain Language Act Repeal Bill - New Zealand Parliament
Public submissions are now being invited on this Bill
Submissions on the Plain Language Repeal Bill Close on Wed 14th. You could just state that you oppose the Bill because it breaches human rights, undermines democracy, and leaves the public in the dark about what Government is up to. Job done. Sheesh our Government are a bunch of wankers.

Union movement ‘under attack’, meeting told
Dunedin workers who turned out in force yesterday to demand better rights were told the union movement is under attack. The University of Otago...
Good coverage of the workers hui in Ōtepoti Dunedin by the Otago Daily Times. We have told them them that they left off mention of the Access homecare support workers who, like the doctors, were on strike that day. Other than that a great article.

Copl work by Greta Yeoman. So the years that Labour was in, our minimum wage got close to the Living Wage amount, but since National-Act-NZ First have been in, the minimum wage has lagged behind. If only there was a Party in the Coalition that claims to care for workers. Oh, hang on...

Large crowd with Palestinian flags sets off from the Museum Reserve
Palestine rally in Ōtepoti Dunedin yesterday. It was one of those stunning, sunny, crisp Autumn days. For the first bit we marched in silence, then we marched chanting, calling for Palestine to be free. It was a lovely bunch of people, and I found the whole experience of being there so moving.
