The way these funds currently operate are, without question, a massive obstacle to being able to bring in reforms that would shape a more equitable economy, in Canada, the UK and elsewhere.

It's not easy to unwind, but ignoring it is not going to help.

This is the challenge: In Canada, union pensions for public sector workers act benefit from the same policies that concentrate wealth and income at the expense of everyone else.
They benefit from low wages, low benefits, high rents and non-union labour, in Canada and around the world.

The same economic forces of extraction and the concentrarion of wealth that have driven inequality and distorted our economy are delivering returns of 10% year being pulled out of the countries and communities where they own.

The UK is facing a water crisis due to a private company. The biggest shareholder is a Canadian public pension fund. From private seniors' homes to energy, unaffordable housing, and privatized infrastructure, Canada's union pension funds are everything the unions say they oppose. Solidarity, whatever!
