Here to lurk a less dysfunctional space. 40s, St. Paul, he/him, can’t help myself sometimes.
What, specifically, is your point?

Agree from a strategic POV on this but the reality with a movement very decentralized/spontaneous this type of thing will happen and the insane asymmetry of expectations makes me want to pull my hair out.
This hurts me. I agree if I tweak it to people that think the guys in Fight Club are cool… but maybe I deserve my shame
16.12.2025 00:19 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0But as I said, to each their own on jiving with an emotional wavelength
16.12.2025 00:14 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0No worries. I’m not going to begrudge a show I like not working for someone. I do respond to Carols vulnerability. To me she’s a giant walking wound covered up by defensive lashing out. And it’s interesting to me to have one of the only people reacting as they should be insufferable and alienating
16.12.2025 00:13 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0But I appreciate honesty over mealy mouthed hedging
15.12.2025 00:06 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That’s certainly fair with some responses, which I would consider much ruder. I guess for me saying things like people strain for meaning where none exists is too close to my dad talking about sushi:“people pretend to like it to feel superior”… which moves from subjective conversation to…
15.12.2025 00:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think maybe I misread the point you were making. I really like the show and I find Carol very funny. So if you find her one note and annoying that’s subjective and I don’t think I could say anything to change that.
I thought you were getting at expectations of a human being in this universe
I agree generally for sure. People have no concept of the subjective nature of taste in art. Speaking as someone who likes Tom despite numerous disagreements, he writes intentionally trolly. The POV of insinuating people are basically dumb and/or straining to find meaning is not particularly nuanced
14.12.2025 23:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I think it’s been like 7 days or something?
14.12.2025 23:36 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0To some degree this comes down to something Ebert said… you can’t talk a person into laughing at a joke, like you can’t talk them into an erection. But I don’t know how you can watch this and not see intelligence, wit, and great acting even if it doesn’t click
14.12.2025 23:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This just seems like how people react to anything they like? At some point in the recent past people can’t seem to embrace the subjectivity inherent in this.
As someone who lives it so far I think you’re harsh on the vast amount of talent on display, but if not on the wavelength of something…
I thought maybe you’d like it as a metaphor for your Bluesky experience- cranky misanthrope putting up with collective action/efficiency/central planning diehards
14.12.2025 23:21 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0So… not trying to be irresponsibly rumor mongering or something… but wondering if the tone means the shooter was “one of theirs”. Would expect more pushing a narrative otherwise.

09.10.2025 04:59 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Worth reading, this piece has been in my head for days. I believe the movie is a masterpiece, but it’s a great work of art that seems intended to provoke this type of discussion
06.10.2025 15:40 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sort of wild to me that you are
1) so unequivocal about the intent, unless you generally consider Scorsese a hack and somehow unaware of the obviousness of the literalization and going out of his way to make it look fake
2) so riled up about it
But I also don’t really find the accents that bad
I guess I’m confused as to what you even think he was trying to communicate with that scene for it to rise to “insult to audience” level. It seems very apparent that he intentionally ratcheted up artificiality to a level where that is the point, especially compared to the script… to each their own

I don’t see the academy of the 90s even nominating Mikey for this role
Because of the long history of nudity leading directly to an Oscar?
