This episode sums up what is wrong with SNW, which is that it often feels like a fan fiction that's trying to stick to a formula and that is chasing fads established by other genre shows. It doesn't feel like it's doing its own thing.

Again, I understand that this kind of a mystery is technically different from a PI story but it's next door. Why not do a horror story? I guess SNW already did fantasy so that's out but what about an 80s action movie? Just make it feel NEW if you're going to have the same dumb plot outline.

But if you're gonna do it... come up with an original idea. Yes this week's is more of a murder mystery but Amelia Moon is just Dixon Hill more or less.

VOYAGER had Chaotica, DS9 did James Bond - do a new genre/premise that is fresh to this show!

Now, I don't like holodeck episodes generally bc they're kinda lazy and the TREK universe is weird enough that if you wanted your guys to be in Robin Hood there's an omnipotent cloud being who can do it. But whatever.

But what sucks about holodeck eps is that they're all the same - malfunction

STRANGE NEW WORLD thread: I like this show! I like the actors, I generally like the tone. I like the aesthetics, more or less. But it keeps frustrating me and this week's ep is a good example.

I'm not super mad about there being a holodeck. They have one in THE ANIMATED SERIES so that's fair.

I think it's weird that genetics have become right wing coded.

I have held my tongue long enough. The upcoming STRANGE NEW WORLDS puppet episode bums me out not because it's silly but because it's the show yet again doing a gimmick episode that other shows pioneered more than a decade ago. It is, frankly, old hat. Or felt in this case.
