SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level. SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this. SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

just rewatched The Fog(my partner hadnt seen it and loves a good ghost story) and it PERFECTLY illustrates my point. The literal plot is so minimal, but the whole movie is vibes & character & mood. AND The fact that two characters sleep together informs their relationship for the rest of the movie!

obviously way bigger than this one point, but I think an overly literal plot driven approach to the way people consume and make stories, is partially to blame. Places like Netflix dont make media that slows down to explore things like character or theme rather than move the plot forward

Rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I just think it's neat that the first hint that they give about how Saruman is actually a punk ass is when he tells Gandalf to stop smoking weed
