Way up by UDC is Bread Furst, which is one of the best bakeries in the city. Their ham-and-cheese on baguette is unparalleled out here.

by Your Only Friend and the 9th street Chercher there's Seylou, which is a really excellent bakery with really great pastries, whole-grain everything that somehow is the best of both worlds (a croissant that feels hearty and delicious but doesn't taste like homework)

Chercher is fabulous. Seconded! They've got two locations in the city, and both are great.

Near the 14th street Chercher there's Thip Khao, which is a wonderful Lao place.

Near the 9th street one there's YOUR ONLY FRIEND, which is a magnificent sandwich joint (do not go here before your flight)

To put it simply, my main value-add is *QUINTESSENCE*. I have seen output trained on my work and it is soulless and bland and unfun. I have spent my career trying to make terribly boring things (grammar, financial literacy, test prep) interesting for students!

I have successfully beaten back the robot twice in my career—but the fear remains, Ed! I know my own value, but I'm not confident that every relevant decision-maker above me does, or that they'll only recognize it after I've been booted aside to make way for Sora-for-Education or something

If the subtext for every story is "So THERE, nerd!!" I'm not so much having my perspective challenged as I am being needled or condescended to

I actually adore this song; it's found poetry made of fan letters written to Nirvana found in the geffen records office. I think it's a lovely immortalization of these kids who wrote in, even (and maybe even especially!) though it wasn't Nirvana who recognized their efforts
