This is hell actually, "Last week, the two top officials at the National Institutes of Healthβ€”the world’s largest public funder of biomedical researchβ€”debuted a new plan to help Americans weather the next pandemic: getting everyone to eat better and exercise."

Trump’s Warships Trigger Rally in Venezuela’s Defaulted Bonds As US President Donald Trump trains naval guns on the Venezuelan coastline, talk of regime change swirls in Caracas β€” and on Wall Street, where speculators are bidding up prices on the country’s defau...

Cool, seems part of why we're going to war with Venezuela is to provide yet another mechanism for funneling money to Wall Street. (gift link)

Federal agents in Chicago used tear gas more times in one day last month than Chicago police did all year.

Great reporting:

When it doesn't happen it needs to be shouted from the rooftops that DJT was blowing smoke.

Was retroactively denied on a surgery & ICU visit with "great" insurance at a reputable hospital. Insurance told me not to worry about the high six figure bill unless we signed something saying if insurance didn't cover it, we would. You can't get a band aid w/o signing that. Ins. ended up paying.

While your child is possibly dying, you're supposed to go around to everyone bin the surgery bay and make sure first they are not contractors and then secondarily what their billing rates are, please

Negotiating for healthcare! Its not even risible. Its insulting.

And it was even that long ago. The 80's air/smog in LA was crazy bad.

There's something bigger than hypocrisy going on here.

Conservatives used to have this oddly compelling argument: they represent normal people who just want to live their lives, whereas the left is a bunch of politics-brained freaks. True or not, they can't even pretend to claim this anymore.

Unlike the 2024 election, right now the simple voting against the R's & DJT have more pull, maybe because they don't have Biden to blame for everything. Not saying the D's shouldn't stand up & try to do things, particularly at the state level.

I don’t care what happens with the Texas legislative maps. Democrats should still gerrymander the shit out of blue states.

True. The "No!" signs and ads were well financed and everywhere. Nextdoor was even more of a joke than normal w/warnings to not be political, because of all the "NO!!!!!" comments. Had me a little concerned. Glad it won handily.

This!!! I still remember (before! the last election) a non-firebrand Texas Republican wringing his hands with this concern and that they shouldn't rush to redistrict. Will be funny if the SC hands them & DJT the "win" bcs of "timing too close to election" and hopefully it backfires spectacularly.

Imagine if the Mexican govt blew up US fishing boats merely because they suspected them of smuggling guns into country. The US would go to war. Trump thinks he’s allowed to do anything he wants to other countries, but they must not dare to even think of doing the same to the US. That’s imperialism!

It will keep things in the news though, and I guess there are a couple of Dems who will read the lists the victims compiled into the records. Also feel like DJT or one of his sychophants will also react poorly regarding the released items and that will also keep things newsworthy

Fox News credulously reports that "the Saudis now say their investment pledge in the US will be increased to $1 trillion." THE ENTIRE GDP OF SAUDI ARABIA IS $1.1 TRILLION, so this is total nonsense.

I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

can we appreciate just how badly Johnson and Trump played this Epstein vote? total failure of a pressure campaign, delayed for months to ensure it stays in the news and immediately swamps "the Dems caved" as soon as the shutdown ends, and now it passes 427-1

couldn't have gone worse if they tried

Remembering the Richard Pryor bit where he was talking to a prisoner in AZ. He asked the guy why he killed the people and the man replied "Because they were home".

Seeing adults who never learned of their ADHD, neurodivergence issues because their parents didn't see a problem, esp. because the parents also were afflicted. Had a teacher that was furious that I was pulled for speech therapy at 13. She was from Boston...I wasn't, she didn't hear the problem.
