Really not sure. It feels a little like you have to do it because everyone else is. But it's also a nice way of persuading someone to pay a little extra not to shop from Amazon, and make your margins slightly better.

When I decided to self-publish, I never thought that I would spend hours learning how to wrap books in tissue paper, and designing branded bookmarks.
But that's what selling through TikTok Shop does to you.

Now they are for writing, marketing, promotion, and self-doubting.

By far my favourite things about being a published author is waking up to photos in my inbox of real people holding my book in real places, that are not my house. Like on the other side of the world.

GoodReads reader reviews for the novel The Terminus Of All Things, described as 'your next urban fantasy obsession'
When I wrote my debut novel, I would have been pleased with 'it was fun' as the best reader review. Comments like these leave me just blown away.

What do I have in common with the England Women's Rugby team? We are both experiencing a huge come down after reaching the pinnacle.
In their case, becoming world champions.
In my case, publishing my first novel.
I'm available to share notes, if any of them want a chat :)

I've had the most wonderful launch day for The Terminus Of All Things, mainly because it's let me reconnect with friends from long ago. The power of books, eh?

Jay Neill holds a copy of The Terminus Of All Things in front of his face, with just his eyes peering over the top.
"It was gripping, emotional, and deeply satisfying."
"One of those books that leaves you with something."
"Jay Neillβs debut novel was original and thought-provoking."
"Brimming with ideas."
"Jay Neill has written a work of art." <- yes, I really did double-take at that one

What a weekend. My debut novel publishes on Monday. Off to watch the red roses in the Rugby World Cup π final later, and spent all night at A&E with a mother sporting a fractured wrist! I will be running on fumes by Monday night.

A movie poster-style-image for a 'film' called The Terminus Of All Things, showing a man and woman looking at some obsolete British icons within the spool of an audio tape cassette.
I re-imagined the cover of my new book as a movie poster...
Not getting ahead of myself or anything.

Thought the rapture was just for laughs? Me too. Until I discovered this morning that a key term in my new novel (left behinds) has special meaning in the world of the rapture, and now I'm wondering if I wrote an allegory by mistake.

Every time I hold a copy of my book in my hands, I get a buzz. I can't imagine that ever stopping.

I would love to be included, although technically, as my urban fantasy (The Terminus Of All Things) doesn't publish until Monday, it would all be on a throne of lies for the next 4 days and 10 hours.

I hadn't realised until reading this that the 'sweet little urban fantasy' that I'm writing is actually body horror. I have someone's rib cage inverting as their sternum peels back...not so sweet. Have fun with it!

All writing advice is an author going, βHey, this worked for me, so Iβm sharing it in case it works for you.β Thatβs cool. That could be useful to someone. On the other hand, advice presented as a βruleβ or as something you βmustβ do is stuff I think you can ignore.

With the exception of taking coffee into the shower (dilution risk - extreme), this is pretty much spot on. Existential dread can appear at any time of day though.

My jaw hit the floor when I read this over coffee this morning. I don't listen to Today, so I just hear about Robinson's bias via social media, and imagined the reports were probably a bit hysterical. Turns out they must be right, if this article is anything to go by.
