I touched on Shutaro Iida's illness a few weeks ago in This Week in Games. His death is a tragic loss.

He hosted a nice AMA five years ago where he shows deep gratitude and joy at the knowledge that people enjoyed his games.

If Hasbro needs to apologize for anything related to the Transformers cartoon, it's for apparently not allowing the Omni Productions dub to be on Shout's DVD release of the Headmasters series.

It's pretty interesting that Wolfteam later planned (and canceled) a Sega CD Apros game that had...futuristic mecha? I guess they cast a wide net for the series.

The 1980s had a bunch of toy lines (Inhumanoids, Bravestarr, Centurions) where the figures were all pretty large and maybe priced too high for the typical kid's allowance. So those kids just bought GI Joes and Ninja Turtles and small Transformers...and then wanted the big toys from those same lines.

I also like how the Sears catalog gives away Tendril and D. Compose's greatest fears, telling kids they can only fight certain monsters with other monsters.

Metlar, though? He's scared of nothing.

It's funny how the human characters for this line got such large figures, since the point of Inhumanoids toys was GIANT Lovecraft-ish monsters. You'd think they'd keep the humans the size of 1980s GI Joes just to make the big creatures more imposing.

I acquired a big bunch of 1980s toys, and I'd forgotten how weird the Inhumanoids dudes looked with their tiny heads. They're wearing giant power suits, but in practice it makes them look like Liefeld-ish 1990s comic book heroes or that one guy from Beetlejuice.

Casino Games rules. It's a pretty good gambling title (plus pinball!) in mechanics, and Compile packed it with so many fun little details that it's second only to Vegas Dream among my favorite casino sims.

between Nozawa, the Namco-produced video loops & the jillion ROMs required to store all the video, DECO took a bath on this game, but somehow made back all their money and then some with Locked'n Loaded aka GUNHARD

I can't believe they didn't use THIS Godzilla for the print ad.

Interesting thing here (to me, anyway): Compile made the original MSX version of this Godzilla game (in 1985), but it looks like the Game Boy version had a different staff, with future Yuke's co-founder Yukinori Taniguchi as programmer.
