In addition to our language-specific literary translation workshops, we have an exciting programme featuring events such as pitching sessions with publishers and a wide range of workshops focusing on things as different as poetry and graphic novels.

Oxford Translates is set to be a brilliant opportunity to meet other translators, publishing professionals and leading voices from translation associations.

Quais du Polar is France's premier festival for crime literature, thrillers, noir novels, and polar cinema since 2005. The 22nd edition runs Friday 3 to Sunday 5 April 2026!

Later this month we're celebrating our new John Calder Translation Prize with a week of special events. We begin with a panel discussion on editing translated work. The online event will be chaired by Alessandro Gallenzi, with Stella Sabin, Rahul Bery and James Young on the panel. buff.ly/J1mtglh

For 2026, it has moved again, and will become "Oxford Translates".

Comprising 3 days of hands-on translation workshops and 2 days of professional development panels and themed workshops, the summer school offers 11 languages translating into English and 4 out of English, as well as a multi-language option.

After a successful 5 years at the University of Bristol, our online literary translation summer school is moving to St Edmund Hall, University of #Oxford. Once again, we have a line-up of stellar tutors and inspiring speakers!

I had a wonderful time leading a dialect translation workshop @bristoltranslates.bsky.social. It was so active with over 100 participants in the Zoom room, and their contributions have been simply brilliant! Dialect sparks the best kinds of conversations. Great to see & meet you all 📚✍️💙

In addition, our 2025 keynote speaker is the distinguished Damion Searls, writer and translator of several #Nobel laureates including Thomas Mann, Elfriede Jelinek and most recently #JonFosse. The keynote is generously supported by NORLA.

For those working with #Scandinavian languages, Bristol Translates 2025 is a real treat: we are offering Swedish as one of our workshop languages for the first time ever.

Our workshop will be led by Nichola Smalley, acclaimed #Swedish and #Norwegian translator.

For all #Catalan learners, speakers, translators and enthusiasts: the deadline for a bursary place on our intensive language workshop, led by translator Peter Bush, is tomorrow.

Bristol Translates 2025 will not only run intensive workshops, but also enlightening talks on crucial topics. On Tuesday 8th July, we will be hosting a session on 'making a living as a translator' - a key question for all aspiring and working translators. Applications still open!

On Thursday 10th July, participants will be able to attend a session focusing on translating for the voluntary sector. Hosted by Amélie Tremolo from Translators Without Borders and Lauren Finch, they will explore the career opportunities available to translators keen to work in the sector.

In addition to our language-specific literary translation workshops, we have an exciting programme featuring events such as pitching sessions with publishers, poetry workshops and discussions on the future of the translation industry in the face of AI.
