Wrote a technical document. Needed to "pair it down" for management. Was offered an AI treatment to see if it would help. I was rather insulted with what came out of it. ;)

At best, AI showed me what important points could be missed by someone skimming over the document. That's being generous.

Wow. Dude invokes the Hacker Manifesto as a sign post for his "no girlz allowed" club. As if the spirit intoned by the Manifesto has a single thing to do with what's in one's pants.

It never ceases to disappoint me that a subset of geekdom seeks to exclude because they were once excluded.

Maybe they're holding on to it so they can write a book.

I didn't even know Big Balls had a copy of the Epstein files. But given all the other data DOGE illegally exfiltrated, it would make sense.

It's not Charlie Chaplain level. But it is comedy.

Fair observation. That slots in to the economics for a store. There's different pricing methods. Some do have table fees.

Mine used to rent private rooms. Now its all free reservations with 2 open weekly events (1 long campaign, 1 oneshot). Show up and folks will give you char sheets and lend dice.

And there is the distinction between a romance simulator game and an AI romance chatbot. The game invokes emotional responses. But it has boundaries and is obviously artificial. Where the AI bot uses trickery to pretend to be something other than what it actually is.

One of the biggest assholes in our culture is John Edward who uses trickery to prey on bereaved marks. His "speak to the dead" act seems harmless and maybe even beneficial to those mourning their loss. But what he does is use trickery that disrupts the grieving process and growth. Ignoring finances.

The problems arise where lacking that artistic curation means we don't know where the chatbot goes while invoking a personable feeling experience. Or worse - when there's a human hand behind the curtain manipulating that experience en masse, on the fly to invoke a detrimental response in the target.

12.08.2025 17:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The distinction with AI chatbots with a romantic bent is that artificial experience is no longer curated. Bye design, they're intended to draw from massive amounts of source material to emulate human response - with a pattern that appears "natural" yet not artificially predictable.

12.08.2025 17:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Neither the romance nor combat were real. But they invoked emotional response - if only in the moment. As art does. Such as movies or novels. The difference being the interactive nature of a game makes it seem more personal. Yet its still a curated experience no mater how varied the possibilities.

The dismissal of emotional attachment to an artificial construct strikes me as... interesting.

In my youth was a strategy game that had a romantic element in the story beat. It wasn't wasn't a lengthy segment of the game. But it hit - oddly as much as the adrenaline dose from a twitch-shooter.

This is BenBen. He showed up and took on the role of uncle and guardian to our Universe-provided patio cat colony. Always fought to protect the little ones. As we adopted or got everyone adopted... he stuck with us.

Maybe he can keep an eye open for you too.

Do. Or do not. There is no try. (ha!)

I was perplexed when the "movie night" with my work crew away at an industry convention was all excited to watch this. But I was game. Enjoyed it. Enjoyed it more when I watch it later. Can't tell you why - maybe some kind of not-quite-meta-humor?

Side note: I like the YT reactor genre. Especially movie reactors who watch classic films. Its fascinating to see someone experiencing these works with different perspectives than I had when I first experienced them.

Yeah. Every pursuit has its snobs - food, art, sport, history... and so on. If I were to project, I would suggest geek culture adds bitterness for when liking the thing wasn't "cool" and non-outcasts wouldn't dare admit they liked the thing.

Pity. We should all just enjoy each other enjoying.

11.08.2025 16:38 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

Absolutely! I suspect some concern that new generations won't respect earlier works or appreciate depth of the genre without those seminal works. Maybe because that's how the greybeards got in to the genre themselves.

I would counter that its just as valid to get hooked. THEN discover the history.
