Excerpt from story at mpr.org:
Reporters, producers, editors, photographers and engineers regularly respond in real time when news breaks. They work evenings, early mornings and weekends. They field tips, verify information, and help provide clarity in moments that can quickly become confusing or chaotic.

Sometimes, that work looks polished and composed on air.
Sometimes, it starts in slippers.

The Atlanticโ€™s Elizabeth Bruenig on her โ€œhypothetical,โ€ heavily reported measles essay "We were attracted to the idea of providing a play-by-play of the progression of measles in granular detail."

Once I learned the story was concocted, I didn't bother with it. Maybe that works in another forum. Or with another writer.

Hypotheticals aren't going to persuade the people who pooh-poohed true stories -- on TV, in their towns, in their families(!) -- in 2020.

So close to where I grew up I thought I might know this guy. I don't, but I know dozens like him. Likely HS athlete, went to Rutgers (note the hoodie), went back home, blows off steam at TopGolf, teachers & middle managers. Decent enough people. If they're in the street something is happening.

As an ex-print reporter who has watched newsrooms contract b/c the ad & classified $$ collapsed, I think news folks long underestimated how TV news trained ppl for "news should be free."
I knew lots of ppl 20 yrs ago who watched local news but never bought a paper.

I was too young to appreciate 1980 & I've never really yearned for a win by the U.S. pros. (The men, anyway.) I've rooted for Jagr, Lemieux & Crosby to get gold b/c I'm a Pens fan.
It's never going to matter the same as '80, so I'd rather see 4 Nations or a World Cup designed around an NHL schedule.

April 6, 1954, newspaper about several new American citizens, including my grandfather.

So, I just realized one of my grandfathers had been in the U.S. for 16 years before he became a citizen in 1954. He was almost 17 when he arrived.
By then, he was a married homeowner with two kids.
Not sure I ever knew how long it took. Hits a hell of a lot differently these days.

6 women's basketball players sue Pitt for 'hostile environment' Pitt and its women's basketball coach Tory Verdi are being sued by six former players who allege he created a "hostile, discriminatory," environment.

Absolutely wild to me that Pitt is standing behind the coach given the allegations.

When six ex-players are putting their names on federal complaints that a (losing) coach is his third year is making disgusting comments, Pitt ought to prioritize an investigation.

How Metric Media filed more than nine thousand public records requests last year. It used the data to target Democratic politicians and private citizens.

We've always had shady publishers (or staffers) who ran cover for shady businesses or shady politicians, but too many of these phony news outlets are just plain nefarious.

Even setting aside the arduous (and relatively recent) battles some fought to be able to vote, it's just such a nonsensical, arrogant "view from nowhere."

Bri: what did he do when mr andrews made him take it off?
