i love when event streams have this view of the convention hall. there's something special about the feeling you get when you look up from your or your friend's match and realizing you hadn't noticed how empty the hall had gotten over the last 30 minutes or so. the weekend is over.

I think the Universes Beyond business model makes a lot more sense when you start to think of us players/collectors as the product, and potential licensing partners as the customer base.

WotC aren't selling cards to you any more. They're selling your attention to their advertising partners.

The neat part about that is that because you're the ruler of your little domain, nobody can tell you you can't have proxies in your cube. Wizards doesn't make the rules anymore. You do.

Creative expression is good for your brain and shit, and Cube offers a way to entwine that with Magic in a way that even the most casual deckbuilding can't. If you and/or your friends are frustrated with the direction Magic is going, you owe it to yourself to either build a Cube or build a new Cube.

Designing and curating a #MTGCube is the healthiest thing you can possibly do for your engagement with Magic. Ruling your own little domain of Magic that includes what you like and excludes what you don't will re-contextualize the way you look at spoilers, cards you own, and your LGS's stock.

This one time, way back in like 2017 or so, my LGS held a proxy-friendly No-Banlist-Modern event. Guy I knew put together some UW miracles deck with Top, JTMS, etc..

He didn't want to take his Hallowed Fountains out of his real modern deck, so he proxied them using Tundras.

This mirrors how I felt about LotR. I think it's because that set showed us a version of Middle Earth that was reimagined by the Magic art team, which made it feel like Magic in ways I think these recent sets haven't.

These last few sets feel much more like overt advertisements than LotR did.
